If you stay in line with your character’s truth & the truth of your circumstances, you cannot overact.

Trust your impulses when a choice or ā€œriskā€ feels aligned - that can also look like whispering a response instead of screaming (as long as you are maintaining the intensity and stakes).

Movies and shows are made because the people, environment, and circumstances involved are INTERESTING - so stop serving vanilla when your gut wants to give to give them a cookie dough sundae.

In my most recent feature film, I got to hold a gun in someone’s face and scream / demand WHY is it so hard for men to just love me - I prepared and went for it to the MAX - thanks to my breathwork practice which revealed a core component of my character’s childhood - and I cannot tell you how cathartic it was for me and how well it served her arc. If I had chosen to hold back or worry about what anyone thought - the story would be incomplete and I would leave feeling regretful and irritated - instead of euphoric and alive šŸ’ƒšŸ»

We all carry emotional blocks. Some are easy to recognize and face… while others run much deeper. These core wounds—often formed as childhood defense mechanisms—can quietly (or loudly) shape how we show up in daily life.

Maybe it looks like:
-Living in constant hypervigilance
-Always putting others’ needs ahead of your own
-Feeling frozen in overwhelm despite your best efforts to move forward

You may have told yourself over the years, "this is just who I am," but I promise...that is not true. Your defense mechanisms are NOT your personality, they're a way for your ego to cloak you in the familiar (even if the familiar is an abusive relationship) and shield you from the unknown.

Why? Change is TERRIFYING to your ego, even if consciously you know the opportunity would benefit you.

Especially if this change is intertwined with your core wound...

I.e. "I am up for a job promotion where I'd be more visible within the company, but I have a fear of being seen. When I was younger I was made to feel 'too much' by my [caregivers, peers], so I've spent most of my life hiding in the background so I don't intimidate or offend anyone."

These patterns may have once kept you safe, but now they can feel heavy and limiting. The good news? You don’t have to navigate them alone.
