“It’s clear that this decision saved lives,” Commissioner Brad Turner said about Tennessee's efforts to prioritize Tennesseans with disabilities in vaccine distribution.

The number of new COVID infections in both persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and staff have decreased more than 80 percent from December 2020 to February 2021. Tennessee was the first state in the nation to prioritize people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Phase 1a1 of its vaccination plan. The first doses to this population were administered in late December, and since that time thousands of persons supported and staff have received at least one dose.

Starting today, parents and caregivers living with children with disabilities who are medically fragile, including those enrolled in the Katie Beckett program are eligible for the vaccine in phase 1c.

Shout out to Dr. Hannah Johnson! East Able Tennessee's Tri-Cities area Physical Therapist!

Hannah is a licensed physical therapist that received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from East Tennessee State University in 2019 after receiving a Bachelor of Science in physical education teaching K-12 in 2014.

Hannah is passionate about serving and advocating for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is evidenced by her doctoral presentations, community involvement, and determination to educate local physical therapists about intellectual and developmental disabilities. She enjoys working with all ages and prioritizes helping the individual achieve what is important to them. She works closely with everyone involved in the care of the individual to ensure safety and optimal functional independence and quality of life.

Hannah provides physical therapy services across the "Upper East" region of Tennessee with coverage surrounding the Tri-Cities and beyond.
