How it started // How it’s going... Homeschool Edition

We wrapped up our first semester of homeschool today. Holy moly, it’s been a roller coaster. I’ve wanted to give up so many times. It’s quite likely the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

But God... Isn’t that always where he comes in?? Where we are at the end of ourselves & we feel like we just CAN’T do it??

I’m doing the James study by with some of my friends, and each week God has spoken so clearly to me. Last night the message was so simple - one I’ve heard a million times, but it was so personal for me too.

When I persevere & trust God through the trials, it will certainly birth something within me. Something precious. Something that I would’ve never dreamed up for myself. Something precious is meant to come out of this. I trust that & believe it with all my heart. I know that God is using homeschooling to refine me & grow me - and our kids too. I have no idea what it’ll be, but I know it’ll be worth it, and that gives me hope as we continue.

Now, it’s not ALL bad! We have loved the slower morning routine & the flexibility of our schedule is AMAZING! I’ve enjoyed learning alongside the kids. Plus, we have homeschool friends in our neighborhood, and the kids have gotten to enjoy way more play time. There really are so many perks, and I’m so grateful for the sweet spots!

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. - James 1:12

Thank you to Kevin, my family, & friends who keep encouraging me & on the hard days. And to all of you homeschool mamas —- wow I have so much respect & awe for you!

I promised a bunch of you that I’d send over tips for weekly food prep, so here ya go!

1 - Pick 1 day per week to do your main shopping. You’ll save money, time, & brain power! We go again mid week to restock things like bananas & avocados.

2 - Wash it all at once. Once it’s washed, you don’t have to think about it again! We use Fruit & Veggie Soak - it’s so easy!

3 - Cut it all even if you don’t plan to eat it right away. I’m WAY more likely to make a salad if the ingredients are already washed & chopped.

4 - Let it all dry. We use old dish towels spread on the kitchen table. Removing moisture before refrigerating helps keep it all from going bad quickly.

5 - Store it! We use canvas bags, glass containers & even beeswax wraps to keep everything fresh all week.

6 - Bonus — this is also a great time to prep cooked items. We add quinoa & roasted sweet potatoes or squash to salads, so cooking them ahead of time helps so much. We are plant based, but you could also cook hard boiled eggs, chicken breast, etc.

7 - Now kick back & enjoy! You’re all set for the whole week!

I’ve realized that I’m going to have to be really intentional this winter to stay on top of my emotional health. Now that we are homeschooling & I’m working from home, it’s going to be really easy to isolate & get into a deep dark funk... I’ve made a few mental notes to help me stay sane over the next 4-5 months, and thought I’d share them with you 👇🏻👇🏻

⭐️ Prayer & Bible time first thing in the morning. Kevin has helped me stay on track with this since we started the school year, and I’m so thankful he keeps me disciplined. When I’m not engaged in my relationship with Jesus, everything is off-kilter.

⭐️ Getting dressed daily - even if it’s back into joggers & a sweatshirt, changing out of PJs, showering, & putting on a little makeup is a must.

⭐️ Oiling up! Sticking to my oil routine for emotional balance. I’ve been using Endoflex, Valor, Harmony, Joy, Awaken & White Angelica lately.

⭐️ Supplements! I am working on healing from adrenal fatigue & thyroid issues, so if I miss a day of my supplements, it feels like 2 steps back. Gotta have my B vitamins, D vitamins, & all the good stuff to stay on top of that emotional roller coaster.

⭐️ Healthy eating - just because it’s healthy doesn’t mean it has to be boring! Comfort food may feel good in the moment, but it sure doesn’t do any long term favors for us. Kevin has done a great job of keeping our whole food plant-based meals fun & enjoyable. I already proposed that we need to have a soup of the week to eat with our salads for lunch. (Oh yeah, did I mention that Kevin is working from home now too?)

⭐️ Friendships - alright, I’m a pretty solid introvert, so it’s entirely possible you won’t see me til spring unless one of us is intentional to set up a play date or girls night. But I am always filled up by time with my friends, so I know it’ll be important to make plans this winter!

⭐️ GRIT! In my business, in homeschooling, in relationships, in all the things, I can’t give in to the darkness that I know will try to pull me down. And I can’t do that without strength from the Lord!

I’m making this list to keep me accountable, and I’ll be praying these things over you too!

Huge huge huge thank you to the 2,500+ families who have supported our family business over the last 6 years!

It’s true, I literally do a happy dance every time a new customer or repeat customer orders through us!

If you shop for essential oils or products with clean ingredients from Amazon or other big box stores, think about how you can order through a friend or family member who is passionate about their small business and choose to support them instead. I guarantee you won’t just feel like a number when you order through me! 💗

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

Harper took this selfie yesterday & it struck me hard how quickly she’s growing up... and then I find these pictures that she & Cullen took with their “kids,” and I breathe a sigh of relief that Harper still plays with her baby dolls & Barbies. Don’t let the neck tattoo fool you 😂, this girl is still 8 years old, and I’m in no rush for her to grow up!

Gotta grab my energy boost! I realized I hadn’t taken my B vitamins or used Endoflex yet today, so it’s no wonder that I’m sitting here dragging. These 2 have been life savers for me as I am recovering from adrenal fatigue & thyroid issues, as well as just the normal mom-life (especially now that we homeschool!). 😍 Want more energy? I’ll help you find the best products at the best price!

Truthbomb from a friend, "By next week Facebook will be flooded with posts about sick kids and sick parents... We don't have flu season we have sugar season..."

Studies have shown spikes in sugar intake suppress your immune system. When your immune system is compromised, you are more likely to get sick. If you eat a lot of foods and beverages high in sugar or refined carbohydrates, which the body processes as sugar, you may be reducing your body's ability to ward off disease.

So what can you do to prepare?

1. Increase Vit D (use D3+K2 drops) or YL's new chewable!

2. Increase Vitamin C (my favorite Super C Chewable from Young Living and NingXia Red)

3. Increase your greens (my favorite: Multigreens)

4. Immune boosting oils like Thieves!

5. Kill all the things with Thieves Household Cleaner, Thieves Hand Purifier, Thieves wipes...

6. Limit sugar! There are so many great tasting options out there! Ask me, i'll be happy to share what I have found for my kids!

Will you survive Sugar Season 2020? 🤔 You can...take steps to prepare today! Don't be a statistic.

The flu does not have a season.
