I want you to really let this land for a second.
The bacteria living in your baby's gut right now are not just passengers. They are actively helping to build your child's brain.
Here's specifically what I mean: serotonin β the neurotransmitter that shapes mood, emotional regulation, and sleep β is being sculpted by the microbes in your infant's gut. Not produced somewhere else and delivered there. Made there. And in the developing infant, that process is laying down neural circuits that will influence who your child becomes.
That's not a metaphor. That's the science.
So when a parent tells me their baby can't sleep, can't settle, seems dysregulated β one of the first places I look is the gut. Because a nervous system that isn't getting the right signals from the microbiome is a nervous system working way too hard.
This is why what happens in the first months of life matters so much. And it's why I talk about the gut-brain axis constantly in our practice.
If this resonates with you β share it. Another parent needs to hear it today. π
