Lonnie had a CT/PET scan done on Tuesday and, he saw his ENT yesterday for the follow up from throat cancer and to get the results of the scans. He told Lonnie that if the report were a term paper, it would get an A plus!! In other words, ALL CLEAR for cancer!!! Praise the Lord God Almighty for this wonderful news!!
He does want him to be started on immunotherapy but that will be up to the oncologist to start and monitor. He will send the oncologist a letter recommending this treatment. The reason he suggested this is that Lonnie has so many squamous cells in his body and, this is a good treatment for them!!
Another plus from the cancer treatment is that his oxygen level is up and his lung status is much better! He only has to wear oxygen at night with his bipap or upon exertion!
His magnesium level is not where it should be and that is a battle he is fighting right now. He is taking magnesium every three hours along with meds for diarrhea, which is caused from taking so much magnesium !!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So far, we have not been able to get an answer as to why this is happening other than chemo treatment. He is seeing his urologist on Monday because his kidney functions are up to par.
He has had pulmonary sarcoidosis for almost all of his adult life and that is a constant battle for which there is no cure. It has mostly affected his lungs but is also on his skin and in multiple organs of his body.
So, if you are one of many who pray for him, keep it up!!
Lonnie will never give up or throw in the towel, as it were. He has too much to live for! Five children (and their husbands/wives) and 14 grandchildren, counting the bonus ones!!! And, we love our bonus ones as much as any of them!!
We are so thankful to God for our awesome family! They are a constant source of support and love! They are always including us in their plans and are always there when we need them!!

Having gone for a few months now without having too much positive things to report, today is a change up!!! Lonnie had a scan done on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and, he got the results yesterday at the office of his oncologist! And......the cancer has shrunk quite significantly. It isnโ€™t gone but, the doctor said it should just keep dying in the weeks and months to come. Praise God! Also, his magnesium level was 1.3 which is good enough not to get an IV infusion of magnesium! He will see his ENT within the next month to be re-evaluated and to discuss further options if the cancer isnโ€™t all gone. He will also be set to have an MRI in two more months. We are praying, along with many others, that the cancer WILL be gone and no further treatment will be needed! Lonnie is a strong man with a strong faith in God and he is looking forward to a time of being able to ride his motorcycle again and do things with the kids and grandkids. He hasnโ€™t had much strength or energy in the past few weeks and it has been very hard for him to be so immobile! Again, we appreciate all the prayers and support we have had from family, friends and church! We love you all!! ๐Ÿ’•

Much better day today! Getting another magnesium infusion each day through Friday. Then, be rechecked the following Tuesday to make sure the levels are staying at a good rate. The rate at which his body gets rid of magnesium may be due, in part, to the sarcoidosis. They just aren't sure. It is a blessing to know that so many people care for him and are praying for him! And, of course, his awesome family!!! โค

Not a good day for Lonnie today. He came into the cancer center for his last chemo treatment but, after his blood was drawn, it revealed that his magnesium level was critically low at .06. So, no more chemo. He is getting IV magnesium over a 3 hour period. This will be repeated tomorrow and Wednesday. Hopefully, now that treatments are over, he can begin to feel better and regain some much needed strength!

Finished with radiation!!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅฐ Now, on to finish chemo on the 17th! We are so happy to be coming to an end of treatments! The recovery from here is a process which could take several weeks or, maybe, months. He goes in for a CT scan on the 15th of September to see how much of the cancer is gone. Then, in 2 more months, a PET scan which will determine more specifically if the cancer is gone! Lonnie is suffering more than he is saying from the side effects but, he is a strong fighter and his faith in God sustains him! Keep praying that after these treatments, he will begin to heal quickly!!! We cannot express enough to you for all the prayers, love and support we have gotten through this! Blessings to you all, we owe a debt of love to you!!!๐Ÿฅฐโค

We are heading down the home stretch, as far as treatments are concerned! Hopefully, Lonnie is getting his last chemo treatment. We haven't seen the oncologist today but, we were told that the chemo treatments are based on the number of radiation treatments and, Thursday will be his last radiation treatment! Of course, after treatment is over, there is the recovery process from the treatments! Tests, scans, bloodwork etc for several months! We are grateful for all the prayers, love and support! Thank you all! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค— Virtual hugs to you all! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Lonnie continues his radiation and chemotherapy treatments with two added days of IV magnesium. His oncologist is at a loss as to why that is happening. Every time his blood is drawn, his magnesium level is near critical. Even when all his treatments are finished, he will have be be checked often for this. Overall, he is progressing according to the plan of treatment laid out for him by his team of doctors. That doesn't mean it is easy, his throat is horrible and he is very weak. He has only lost 3 pounds so, that is a good thing as well. He is a very strong and determined man but, we give God the glory for that! We thank you all for your prayers and support through this difficult time. Prayer changes things, of that, we are certain!!!

Update; Lonnie is not having his usual chemotherapy treatments this week because his magnesium level was down so low. On Monday, today he received a combination of magnesium, steroids and fluid by IV. Only today, he had to have a second bag of magnesium. He will receive another one of these on Friday and continue with chemotherapy on Monday! Since he is having so much trouble maintaining his magnesium level, these IV treatments may be in his future with further chemotherapy! He is feeling much better though which is wonderful!!! They are keeping a close eye on this so he doesn't have anymore issues! Once again, thank you all for your dedicated prayers!!! Much love from us Greggs!!! โค

Well, Lonnie has had a little setback. After his chemotherapy treatment on Monday, he just kept feeling worse so he just went to bed. But, he had not taken in enough fluids evidently. By Tuesday morning he was so sick and dizzy that he could not stand. So, with the help of a walker, I finally got him to the van and on to the hospital! After two days of tests and 10 bags of IV fluids, he is home and doing well enough to go to his radiation treatment! He has 4 more weeks to go and, hopefully, those will go a better than this one!!! Thanks again to everyone for their prayers and support! ๐Ÿฅฐโค

Here we are at the cancer center for the 3rd treatment. A few changes in the medications because of the weakness. He will take less steroids at the beginning of the treatment and a low dose during the week. Hopefully, that will help! 4 more weeks after this one! We are so very thankful for all the prayers going up on his behalf! Love to all! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜ณ

Lonnie has just finished his second chemo treatment on Monday and radiation Monday thru Friday. These treatments will last 5 more weeks. He is doing well so far. Minimal side effects from the chemo, which is a blessing from God and, a result of the multitudes of prayers going up for him. I am not minimizing his struggle, just saying it could be a lot worse compared to others going through the same treatments! He is getting a steroid with the chemo on Monday which helps him through the first two or three days. After that, he gets very weak and tires out very quickly. His battle with sarcoidosis and squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer is an ongoing struggle as well as the cancer. But, this man is a fighter and continues to do the things he loves like playing with the grand babies and watching his adult children play softball! He wants to play so bad and, maybe, next season, they will let him pitch which, is what he would absolutely LOVE!!!! We will see about that one!! ๐Ÿ˜Š I want to extend to each of you who have spent time praying for Lonnie my heartfelt thanks and gratitude!!! Your prayers are being heard and answered!! โค๏ธ

Once again, Lonnie Gregg will be going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy as cancer has returned to his throat. It has been 5 years since his last battle with throat cancer. It returned on the opposite side of his throat this time. Although the diagnosis of cancer is never a good thing, he is blessed that this a new cancer, which means it hasnโ€™t metastasized and will be easier to treat. Also, it is localized and no lymph nodes are involved.
We have been told that this cancer has a very high cure rate and, with all the prayer warriors who are already praying for him, Lonnie will come out on the other side of this cured! He begins his treatment on Monday June 29 at which time he will receive his first treatment of chemotherapy. He will get this every Monday for 7 weeks. The next day, June 30, he will receive his first treatment of radiation which will be done. This will be don Monday thru Friday for 7 weeks as well. Our sincere, heartfelt thanks to all who spend time praying for this man! He is a brother, brother-in-law, husband, friend, uncle, father-in-law and dad to 5 children and Papaw to 14 grandchildren. Our hope, as always, is in the Lord our God who loves us and has always been faithful! We love you and appreciate all your prayers and support during this time!
