Meditation and contemplation are two beautiful and complementary practices.
Meditation, for me, is usually done in silence, resting attention on the breath. At times, an external point of focus may be used, such as a flame.
Contemplation often takes a different form. It may be walking contemplation, such as hiking in the woods, or reflecting on a passage or a sutra.
So often, we spend our days rushing to and fro. We worry about the future and replay the past, suffering over what has already been.
That is not living.
That is not fully appreciating Life.
The only thing we truly have is this moment—NOW. And if we do not fully inhabit and embrace the present moment, what do we truly have at all?

One of my favorite writings is Oneness with All Life by Eckhart Tolle. I’m sharing this passage here because it offers something deeply beautiful and worthy of contemplation.
