☀️ July is UV Awareness Month! ☀️
We’re bringing the sunshine — but keeping our eyes protected. 😎🕶️

Did you know that prolonged UV exposure can lead to:
✅ Cataracts
✅ Macular Degeneration
✅ Growths on the eye (yes, that’s a thing!)
✅ Even eye cancer in extreme cases

Both Dr. Justin Nguyen & Dr. Alyssa Pack are proudly showing off their UV-protective sunglasses because eye health is year-round — not just a summer thing!

💡 Quick Tip: Always wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA & UVB rays. Bonus points if they wrap around for full protection!

👓 Not sure if your shades are up to the task? Bring them by EyeCare at the Cove — we’ll test them for UV protection!

👉 Stay shaded. Stay stylish. Stay protected.

Here are 5 easy at-home eye care tips to keep your eyes healthy:

1. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule – To lessen eye strain, take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to gaze at anything 20 feet away.

2. Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid discomfort and dry eyes.

3. Blink More! – Blinking less when staring at screens might lead to dry eyes. To keep your eyes moist, blink often.

4. Don’t Rub Your Eyes – Avoid rubbing your eyes as this might spread bacteria and lead to discomfort or infections. If your eyes feel dry or scratchy, use artificial tears and schedule an exam with an eye care provider to ensure proper treatment.

5. Get Enough Sleep – Sleeping is crucial for maintaining good eye health, reducing dry eye symptoms, and minimizing dark circles.

Last month, Dr. Nguyen & Dr. Pack had the privilege of attending Optometry Legislative Day in Sacramento to advocate for advancements in the profession of Optometry and for better access to eye care for all Californians. Grateful to stand alongside fellow doctors and legislators working to protect and advance patient care! 👓💙

April is Women's Eye Health and Safety Month — a time to raise awareness of the unique vision challenges women face and the steps we can all take to protect our sight.

Did you know? Women are more likely than men to suffer from most eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, and age-related macular degeneration. But with education and early prevention, we can change that.

Why Do Women Face Greater Risks?
1. Greater Life Expectancy – Age is a key risk factor for many vision problems, and women tend to live longer than men.

2. Hormonal Changes – Vision can be affected by pregnancy, birth control, and menopause.

3. Autoimmune Diseases – Disorders like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, more common in women, can impact eye health.

4. Dry Eye Syndrome – Hormonal shifts, especially during pregnancy and menopause, raise the risk of developing dry eyes.

Taking care of your eyes is taking care of your overall well-being.

Make an appointment today—message us to schedule your eye exam or learn more about protecting your vision.
