🎲 Self-Regulation Through Play
How movement helps kids calm, focus, and feel in control

Play isn’t just fun — it’s one of the most powerful tools for helping children learn self-regulation. 💚

Through movement and play, kids learn how to:

🧠 Calm their bodies
Activities like swinging, pushing, and deep pressure help the nervous system settle.

😌 Manage big emotions
Play gives children a safe way to release energy, frustration, and stress.

🎯 Improve focus & attention
Movement helps kids reset so they can listen, learn, and engage.

⚖️ Feel more in control
When kids understand their bodies, they feel more confident navigating their world.

✨ Play is how children practice regulation before they can explain it with words.

💡 Examples of Regulating Play:
Swinging or rocking
Jumping and crashing safely
Animal walks
Pushing/pulling heavy objects
Obstacle courses

⭐ The Power of Routine

When kids practice the same activities regularly — at home, in school, or in therapy — their brains and bodies learn to say:

“I can do this.”

🌱 How Routines Help Kids Thrive:

🧠 Builds confidence through repetition
The more kids repeat a skill, the more secure and capable they feel.

💪 Encourages independence
Consistent routines help children master everyday tasks on their own.

😌 Reduces stress and anxiety
Predictability helps kids feel safe, calm, and in control.

🎯 Supports learning and movement
Daily movement routines strengthen coordination, balance, and focus over time.

✨ Small habits done consistently lead to BIG growth.

⭐ The Power of Routine

Children thrive when they know what to expect. A predictable routine helps their brains feel safe, organized, and ready to learn.

Here’s how consistent routines build confidence:

💪 1. Boosts Independence

When kids repeat skills daily — dressing, brushing teeth, practicing movements — they gain mastery and pride.

🧠 2. Strengthens Learning

Repetition builds strong neural pathways. The more consistent the routine, the faster skills develop.

😌 3. Reduces Stress & Tantrums

Predictability helps children feel in control, reducing anxiety around transitions and new tasks.

🎯 4. Supports Physical Development

Consistent movement routines (stretching, tummy time, balance practice) help kids build strength and coordination over time.

💛 5. Builds Confidence Through Success

Every small win — repeated daily — reinforces,
“I can do this!”

✨ Parent Tips for Building Routine

👉 Keep morning & bedtime schedules simple
👉 Use visual schedules for younger kids
👉 Celebrate progress, not perfection
👉 Add small movement breaks throughout the day
👉 Stay consistent, even on “off” days

🤔 How many muscles does it take to smile?

Smiling uses between 10–12 muscles — and kids use them a lot when they’re having fun, playing, and learning! 😄💛

Smiles aren’t just cute — they support facial strength, emotional expression, and social development.

Encourage more smiles today! 😊✨

💧 Hydration for Little Movers

Kids are constantly moving, growing, and learning — which means their bodies need plenty of water to stay energized and balanced!

Here’s how staying hydrated helps little movers:

💡 Boosts Brain Power
Even mild dehydration can affect focus, mood, and attention. Water keeps the brain sharp!

⚡ Improves Energy & Endurance
Hydrated muscles work better! Kids can run, climb, jump, and play longer without tiring easily.

🦵 Supports Muscle Function
Water helps muscles contract smoothly — important for therapy, sports, and everyday play.

🌡️ Helps Regulate Body Temperature
Kids heat up fast during activity. Hydration keeps them cool and safe.

😌 Aids in Recovery
Water assists in nutrient delivery and muscle recovery after movement.

💙 Parent Tips for Keeping Kids Hydrated

👉 Offer water often — don’t wait for them to feel thirsty
👉 Send a fun, easy-to-open water bottle to school or therapy
👉 Add fruit slices for flavor (lemon, berries, cucumber)
👉 Encourage “water breaks” during active play

🌱 Growth Spurts & Coordination
Why kids may seem “clumsy” sometimes
🤔 Why does my child seem more wobbly lately?

Believe it or not — it might be a growth spurt!
When kids grow quickly, their bodies change faster than their brains can keep up, and this can temporarily affect coordination.

⭐ What Happens During a Growth Spurt?

🦵 Longer limbs, same coordination
Arms and legs get longer, but movement patterns need time to adjust.

🧠 Brain recalibration
Kids must “relearn” where their body is in space (proprioception).

⚖️ Shifts in balance
A taller or heavier body changes their center of gravity.

🏃 Temporary awkwardness = totally normal
Tripping, dropping things, or bumping into objects can increase for a little while.

💡 How Parents Can Help

👉 Play balance games
Walk on a line, stand on one foot, or play freeze dance.

👉 Encourage slow, mindful movement
Yoga poses, stretching, or marching helps body awareness.

👉 Strengthen the core
Stronger core = more stability during rapid growth.

👉 Reassure them
Let them know it’s normal and their coordination will catch up!

📢 Are DPTs Still Considered Professionals in the U.S.?

Here’s What You Need to Know (2025 Update)**

There’s been a lot of confusion lately about whether Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) graduates are being “declassified” as professionals in the United States.
Let’s clear it up ⬇️

✅ Clinically & legally: DPTs ARE STILL PROFESSIONALS

DPT is still the required degree to become a licensed Physical Therapist.

PTs continue to diagnose movement issues, create treatment plans, and work in hospitals, clinics, schools, and more.

Nothing about license, scope of practice, or professional status has changed.

⚠️ So where is the confusion coming from?

A proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Education may reclassify some degrees — including DPT, nursing, PA, and other health-care programs — as “graduate degrees” instead of “professional degrees.”

👉 This is only a federal administrative label used for things like

financial aid rules
loan limits
federal data categories

It does NOT change the ability to practice or the status as a health-care professional.
