The role exercise plays in the immune system is a dense topic with tons of research to comb through

These benefits are seen with moderate intensity exercise. Prolonged (>90 minutes) high intensity exercise may play a detrimental role to your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections

These are a few ways that moderate exercise (walking, weight lifting, yoga, etc) can improve your immune system and make you less prone to sickness and disease.

Exercise over a long period of time will have a greater effect but in the short-term, exercise will reduce stress hormones and promote the circulation of cells that help fight pathogens

It’s more important now than ever to keep yourself healthy and protect those around you. Staying active is a great way to do that

Instagram vs reality
I took these after a workout, minutes apart. One photo posed and flexed, the other relaxed.

I used to follow a lot of social media accounts for fitness inspiration. I’d think “wow, I want to look like her” and hit the follow button.

Over the past couple of years I began to realize how a lot of this content largely made me feel inadequate and insecure. Following these accounts led me to have a really poor body image.

It took time for me to realize that I was only seeing from them what they wanted me to see. Posing, controlled lighting and photoshopping their pictures.

But I was seeing my body with clothes and without, at all times of day in all different kinds of lighting. There’s no fair comparison between myself and “fitspo” instagram pages. Same goes for you.

I’ve promised myself to do my best to create a platform to teach and uplift people. Overall, I want to have a positive influence on the people that see my content.

I’ve unfollowed a good number of pages that weren’t positive influences while following instagrams that help me feel better about myself.

Reminder that whatever you’re working towards right now- it takes time.
You won’t find your best self overnight.
You won’t build a fitness habit overnight.
And you won’t create your dream life overnight.
Growth takes time.

Everyday you get to choose what’s important and where you want to focus your energy. Each day you should do one thing that will get you closer to where you want to be.
Find your motivation. Be patient.
It’s the process that allows you to grow and growth takes time.
You got this. Keep pushing.

Sleep is really important and all too easy to sacrifice, especially in an era when we’re more accustomed to late night scrolling that can prevent us from getting to sleep.

Sleep and rest are just as important for your body as exercise and mindfulness. The recommended amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours a night. But this varies by person. Personally, if I get 6.5 hours of quality sleep, I feel great the next day.

If you’re chronically sleep deprived, consider the important of getting enough sleep and brainstorm a plan to get more zzz’s in.

Getting in the gym for a workout will make you feel amazing but physical fitness is a multifaceted approach.

Have I mentioned that you can work literally every muscle in your body using a suspension trainer like this one?

These knee tucks are an awesome core exercise. Having your feet suspended on the trainer means your stabilizing muscles- quads, glutes, obliques, etc.- have to work even harder than in a traditional plank.

It’s important to already have good core strength before trying these to prevent your hips from sagging which can lead to low back injuries.
