I’m so grateful to say that I am officially a certified birth doula with DONA. The past couple of years working toward this have been exhausting, exhilarating, and the most mind opening time of my life. I look forward to continuing to support families, educating myself, and serving my community. Thank you to the families that allowed me to be apart of their births, the mentors I’ve had, and the people who have loved and supported me through this journey.

These are some ways a doula can support you during your pregnancy and labor. My philosophy educate, help you advocate, and support where needed. There are so many ways that having a birth doula can help aide you, but did you know the benefits that having a doula can have for your birth?
A 25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean birth.
An 8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth.
A 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief.
Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average.
A 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score.
A 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience; this risk was reduced with continuous support provided by a doula or someone in their social network (family or friend), but not hospital staff.

Motherhood is a journey like no other. It is a time where all emotions come into play. The highest of highs and lowest of lows. And before anyone ask every emotion is valid. Motherhood comes with the privilege to hold someone’s little hand and help to be a guiding light in their world. It comes with acts of selflessness when your cup is empty. It comes with tears of joy at seeing every new exciting development and tears of sadness when you feel like you’ve failed. It comes with a love like no other that you pour into your children. It comes with messes from meals, playtime, and crafts. It comes with memories they may not remember but you will hold onto so tightly. It is one of the hardest but most rewarding jobs in the world and one I am grateful to do. To every mother. The ones who are new, the ones that are old, the ones dealing with loss, the ones yearning for it, the ones who are adopted parents, foster, step parents, to the ones who have lost a mother or never known their mother, to the ones who have a tough relationship with their mother. I wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope it is a day filled with joy and peace for you all.

It was such a pleasure to work with The Birth Place while supporting a mama in labor. The midwife’s were caring, compassionate, and listened to her wants and needs. If you are looking for a midwife in the winter park area. I would highly recommend this group.
