I’m so grateful to say that I am officially a certified birth doula with DONA. The past couple of years working toward this have been exhausting, exhilarating, and the most mind opening time of my life. I look forward to continuing to support families, educating myself, and serving my community. Thank you to the families that allowed me to be apart of their births, the mentors I’ve had, and the people who have loved and supported me through this journey.

These are some ways a doula can support you during your pregnancy and labor. My philosophy educate, help you advocate, and support where needed. There are so many ways that having a birth doula can help aide you, but did you know the benefits that having a doula can have for your birth?
A 25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean birth.
An 8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth.
A 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief.
Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average.
A 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score.
A 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience; this risk was reduced with continuous support provided by a doula or someone in their social network (family or friend), but not hospital staff.
