Just came out of a 5-day silent meditation retreat—no phone, no talking, no reading or writing, just practice, nature, and stillness.

People often imagine retreats like this to be serene and idyllic—peaceful people sitting cross-legged, eyes closed, untouched by the world.

But the truth is far more human.
And far more powerful.

It’s not about escaping discomfort.
It’s about learning to stay—to be with joy, stillness, disruption, and all the in-between spaces.

There were moments so expansive they brought tears to my eyes—and others so uncomfortable I wanted to collapse or run. But presence isn’t something you construct.
It’s something you return to.
And the expansion that comes from staying—that’s where joy unfolds.
