Congratulations to the NICU and OB teams at our Lake Area hospital for once again earning the prestigious Level III OB and NICU designation. Following a survey by the Louisiana Department of Health, Health Standards Section, our facility was found to be in substantial compliance with all licensing and certification requirements. This recognition reflects the exceptional care our teams provide to mothers and newborns, and we are proud to be one of only three hospitals to complete this survey and maintain Level III status.

Family Medicine Specialist Dr. Clint Lincoln was inspired to become a primary care physician because of his desire to help people. After earning his medical degree from LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine, he completed a residency in rural family medicine at North Caddo Medical Center in Vivian, Louisiana. As a family medicine physician, he enjoys seeing his patients at each visit and caring for them holistically. Caring for people through every stage of life gives him a sense of purpose and strengthens his commitment each day.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery Dr. Daniel Beckles emphasizes the importance of preventive care.
According to Dr. Beckles, many mistakenly believe heart disease starts in the emergency room when it can manifest years before. With 80% of cases being preventable, he urges others to know their numbers, comparing them to ABCs: A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
Common symptoms in men can include chest pain that radiates to the jaw and shortness of breath, while women may experience nausea or cold sweats.
Dr. Beckles recommends taking action now with regular checkups, tracking your numbers, and speaking with your physician about your personal risk factors.

In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Venerable Augustus Tolton. Born into slavery in 1854, Tolton escaped with his family to freedom and was raised in the Catholic faith despite immense hardship. Though rejected by every U.S. seminary because of racism, he persevered and was ordained in Rome, becoming the first known Black Catholic priest in the United States. He returned home to minister with humility, joy and compassion, drawing people of all backgrounds together through his witness. His life reflects extraordinary faith, resilience and a commitment to the healing mission of Christ.

When Damian Joseph arrived at the ER, he was told to follow up with a cardiologist. He met with three different specialists, and each recommended invasive surgery.
But Damian did not want invasive surgery. He wanted a minimally invasive procedure that would repair his valve with little to no pain and a shorter recovery time.
He searched online and found Dr. Daniel Beckles, a well-respected cardiothoracic surgeon who performed Damian's minimally invasive mitral valve repair.
Today, Damian feels much better and attends cardiac rehab regularly as he continues to heal. He is grateful to Dr. Beckles and his care team for providing a solution that met his needs and a chance to regain his health.

President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Davidson has spent his career in hospital settings, but after experiencing a cardiac event himself, he entered a whole new world as a patient. Following a stent placement in his LAD artery, Jim remembers a feeling of vulnerability and uncertainty about what his new normal would be.
Connecting with other survivors helped him rebuild confidence and eased the fear that often follows a heart event. When presented with the opportunity to reestablish the Mended Hearts® Program in Southwest Louisiana, he immediately recognized how meaningful it could be to people walking the same path he had.
Jim says that while the recovery process may look different for everyone, members of the program can have a venue to talk openly with other survivors, access valuable resources, and not feel alone.
He urges anyone skeptical about joining to be open to it, because learning from others can help unlock the door to a better future.

In honor of Black History Month, we are honoring our black saints and holy figures like Blessed Marie-Clémentine Anuarite Nengapeta. Born in Congo in 1939, she became a religious sister with the Holy Family Sisters and lived with deep faith during a time of civil war. In 1964, rebels attacked her convent, and she was assaulted and killed for refusing violence and remaining faithful. Even in her final moments, she proclaimed forgiveness: “I forgive you for you do not know what you do.” Beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1985, her life remains a profound testament to courage, mercy and the power of forgiveness.

One of Family Nurse Practitioner Sherrie Eakin's favorite things about working in primary care and family medicine is the opportunity to care for multiple members of the same family. According to Sherrie, building meaningful relationships naturally happens when she gets to know entire households over time. She also enjoys her patients' curiosity and loves the opportunity to research their medical questions, no matter how bizarre. Sherrie says seeing her patients in social settings and doing well is always a highlight, as it reminds her why she loves what she does.
