We will not use this page as his personal page so you can follow Jack through his journey of life!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack is a 4 year old Beagle facing a diagnosis of a portosystemic shunt. Without surgery Jack WILL die. There is no long term treatment for this problem except surgery which provides a recovery. With surgery Jack is expected to live a normal life span like any other Beagle. A portosystemic shunt is a blood vessel that bypasses liver tissue, carrying blood from the intestines, stomach, spleen, and pancreas to the heart before it can be filtered and cleansed of proteins, sugars, bacteria, and toxins. Shunts are present in all fetal mammals and usually close down shortly before or after birth so that the baby's liver takes over the functions of filtration, storage, and production. In some individuals the shunt doesn't close down or develops in an abnormal place, and the animal's liver doesn't get enough blood supply to grow or function properly. Jack's Mom & Dad have exhausted their savings and are reaching out to the world wide web for help. A portosystemic shunt is not something veterinarians see often, so Jack’s Mom & Dad spent all of their savings having many tests and hospitalizations for Jack until his diagnosis was finally made by specialists at the VCA All-Care Animal Referral Center in Orange County, California. Thus the need to reach out to others to help SAVE JACK! Jack is currently a patient at VCA All-Care Animal Referral Center which is located in Fountain Valley, California. He just returned home on 11/13/11 after his overnight stay and a battery of tests which were done to confirm the diagnosis and come up with a medical management plan in order to ready him for surgery. The Animal Hospital has an account set-up to receive funds via phone or snail mail. Please contact us directly for Jack’s account #. If you would like to simply give a donation now via the web you may do so by clicking on the orange button you see to the right ------------------------->
ALL funds will be paid directly to the veterinary hospital. If more funds are received than are needed for Jack's care the entire remainder of donations will be paid to the veterinary hospital to be given to another animal's care who is in financial crisis. We want to be completely transparent here and we are not using these funds for personal gain.....only for the health of Jack. PLEASE share this page and information with anyone you know so that we can try and help Jack. You can follow Jack and his updates on his page “Help Save Jack”. We also have photos of Jack and will be putting videos on his page as well. Currently Jack is resting at home, taking a few different medications which reduce the ammonia and other toxins in his blood which affect his whole body. This will help Jack to rest and to ensure he is medically stable enough to have his CT Scan and life saving surgery. (the CT Scan is usually done the same day as the surgery to assist the surgeon to locate the vessel that needs to be occluded to reroute the blood flow to his liver). We are humbled and awed by the help we have received thus far and are very very thankful for any donations that are made. Jack is a very very special little Beagle and he thanks you as well from the bottom of his little beagle heart ? If you want to send correspondence or request any information, the e-mail address is:
