THANK YOU!!!! Thank you to Clean Getaways for sending out a crew! Thank you to the Masonic Lodge for sending a crew! And thank you to my family and friends that show up and help with every single clean up!

Today we had
1 sharp disposed of appropriately
3 paraphernalia items
14 bags of trash at 25Lbs!!!!!
And an amazing 14 volunteers!!!!

Community cleanups are a powerful form of harm reduction because they directly reduce environmental hazards that put people at risk especially those who are unhoused, use public spaces, or are already vulnerable.

By removing trash, discarded needles, broken glass, and other dangerous materials, cleanups help prevent injuries, reduce the spread of disease, and make shared spaces safer for everyone.

They also create opportunities for outreach, connection, and trust-building between community members, service providers, and people who may be isolated or stigmatized. Beyond the physical impact, visible care for a space sends a message: this community matters, and the people in it do too!

Public safety reform should not be defined by how many arrests are made, but by how many people are safely housed, connected to care, and able to rebuild their lives.

Everyone has a human right to safety, and work should be safe β€” full stop. On International S*x Worker Rights Day and every day, we're reminded that the criminalization of s*x work allows a culture of violence, harassment, lack of worker protections, and disregard of human rights to thrive. S*x workers deserve better. We demand it.

Everyone deserves access to stigma-free, non-judgmental health care, including for HIV. Stigma often prevents people from seeking out care to begin with. Join NHRC on March 25 for our webinar, β€œHIV Stigma: Creating Barriers for Testing and Treatment.” We'll focus on the concept of stigma and its various levels while exploring how it manifests in many ways, impacting people’s willingness to get tested and treated. 🚨 Lake Isabella – We Need a Location Partner 🚨

An organization is working to bring a public naloxone (Narcan) access box to Lake Isabella β€” similar to the ones pictured below. These units are placed outside a business or organization and provide free, lifesaving naloxone in case of an opioid overdose emergency.

We are currently looking for a business, nonprofit, church, or community organization willing to host one of these units on the outside of their building.

What this means: βœ” The unit would be installed outside for public access
βœ” Naloxone is safe, legal, and saves lives
βœ” This does NOT increase crime β€” it increases survival
βœ” Training and education can be provided

Lake Isabella is the Gateway to the Southern Sierra β€” and we take care of our own. Having accessible naloxone in our community is a practical, compassionate, and responsible step.

If your organization is willing to be part of the solution, or if you’d like more information, please message me directly.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe. πŸ’™

Drug users' rights are human rights β€” full stop. This is true on International Drug Users Day and the other 364 days of the year. Today and always at NHRC, we will continue our life-saving, evidence-backed harm reduction work that centers the people most impacted by drug use: People who use drugs.
