International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. We at docOTC are proud to be women-owned and Latina owned and celebrate the achievements of all women in the medical field!

Women have been in the role of physicians since ancient Egypt, often as skillful practitioners and midwives. In the 18th century, however, the Western world began to believe that intellectual study was harmful for women, and by the 19th century, women were pushed out of medical positions except for as nurses and midwives. In the United States, Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to graduate from a medical school despite facing criticism from her fellow students and the general public. She would also go on to create a medical school for women in the 1860s.

Birth defects affect one in every 33 babies (about 3% of all babies) born in the United States

Zofran causes birth defects, particularly congenital heart defects, cleft palate defects, and kidney defects. The birth defects linked to the use of Zofran during pregnancy include a 130% risk of overall birth defects. 620% risk of kidney obstruction birth defects.

Following the World Health Assembly Resolution on birth defects in 2010 WHO Regional Office of South-East Asia (WHO-SEARO) initiated a holistic initiative on birth defects in collaboration with CDC-USA in 2011-2012. WHO has supported nine countries of the Region to prepare national plans on birth defects prevention and control.

The first-ever World Birth Defects Day was observed in 2015 on 3 March with the support of 12 organizations. Many global and national organizations have joined in support to prepare for every year.
