I'm Simone.
In 2011, I had a stroke and it transformed my life.
I was absolutely devastated. At the time, I believed that I was in the ideal state of health.
I was spending the majority of my time at the gym, constantly dieting and taking all sorts of dietary supplements. I thought that I was at the top of my health game.
After the stroke, all I could think was, 'how could this happen to me?'.
The doctors couldn't really find a cause, so they prescribed the standard post-stroke medication and sent me on my way.
Convinced that I had it right the first time around, I turned to my previous lifestyle choices and upped the ante.
I made more time for the gym, and integrated more dieting into my food planning.
Here I was, thinking that I was moving closer towards greater health and security, when in fact I was moving further away from it.
I had a dizzy spell at work and a colleague had to rush me to the hospital. I was too close to being right back where I started and I was at my wits end about it.
Clearly, something wasn't right about what I believed about health and nutrition, that much I knew. I had this nagging feeling that there was something more to my wellness than pharmaceutical dependencies, binge dieting and excessive weight training, I just didn't know what that was.
My inability to take control of my health, and fully understand my body's needs, began to affect my self image.
I felt trapped and disempowered, even incompetent at times.
My poor self image, in turn, started to have a negative effect on my relationships, work and other areas of my life.
The doctors had told me that a second stroke would take my life, and I found myself living in fear of not being around for my children. This, in turn, crippled my ability to be fully present with them in the moment.
I was running in circles and I knew that something had to change!
That's when I began my independent research, outside the realm of diets and prescriptions.
What I discovered, changed my life!
One of the first things I discovered, was how important food is - it can either cause dis-ease or create health in the body - so I started to make note of what I ate.
This sparked my curiosity, and I began to study, in greater detail, which foods have which effects on the body. I was simultaneously becoming aware of the effects my prescription medicines were having on my overall health - short term side effects and long term damage.
It all started to make sense - my poor health, why the meds weren't working, and my inability to take control of my health through binge dieting and intensive work outs.
After realizing that I wasn't at fault, but rather had been mislead by the dominant western standards surrounding health and wellness - that how I looked was a reflection of how healthy I was - I decided to take back my health and help others do the same.
I knew that there were others out there just like me - stroke and heart attack victims who could benefit from what I knew, and I wanted them to have easy and clear access to that information.
That's when I decided to study Holistic Nutrition, with an emphasis on Regenerative Detoxification.
Once I began my studies, I started to feel excited, not just about my own health, but also about the possibility of being able to help others avoid what I went through - confusion, anxiety and fear.
Alongside that excitement, came a rush of responsibility - and I welcomed it.
I graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition as a Holistic Nutritionist, and completed my specialization in Regenerative Detoxification at the International School of Detoxification, under Doctor Robert Morse.
Learning about the tangible ways in which I could achieve optimal health transformed my perception of self - I felt knowledgeable about my health, I felt confident about my food and workout choices, and I felt liberated from my fears!
For the first time, in a long time, I saw a brighter future, not just for me and my own family, but for everyone suffering from bad health and the pain that comes with it - physical and mental.
WHY DETOX?
People often ask me why I chose to specialize in regenerative detoxification.
My interest in detoxification comes from my principal belief that nature can and does provide us with everything we need to maintain optimal health.
Detoxification is the process of removing the un-natural foods that have become standard elements of our western diets, and introducing natural foods back into the mix.
Detoxification is a lifestyle change designed to support your body in its natural quest towards optimal health and the prevention of disease by eliminating the #1 cause of poor health - JUNK FOOD!
Detoxification is about eating to live, not living to eat.
