We’re getting ready for Thanksgiving at MMG! 🦃🍁

Our little turkeys had so much fun creating their colorful turkey crafts this week — and while it may look like simple holiday crafting, this activity is packed with meaningful OT skills.

Why this craft matters in OT:

✨ Fine Motor Skills – Cutting feathers, gluing pieces, and placing googly eyes help build hand strength and precision.
✨ Bilateral Coordination – Kids use both hands together with purpose (one hand holds, one hand cuts or glues).
✨ Visual–Motor Integration – Matching shapes, lining up pieces, and assembling the turkey support important pre-writing and coordination skills.
✨ Following Directions – Sequencing steps and completing the craft in order builds attention, organization, and task planning.
✨ Sensory Exploration – Different textures (paper, glue, wiggle eyes) provide hands-on sensory input in a fun, low-pressure way.
✨ Confidence + Creativity – Every turkey looks different, and kids love taking ownership of their final masterpiece!

We love kicking off the holiday season with activities that bring joy and support skill development at the same time.

Scenes from a dynamic obstacle course at MMG. Working on balance, midline crossing and bilateral coordination, core strength, attention, and incorporating organizational movement to support sensory regulation.

Today’s multi-step obstacle course included climbing, crawling, ball work, and a visual motor schedule to guide the sequence. Each part of the course was intentionally designed to target foundational skills that support success across home, school, and play:

▪️Climbing wall: Builds upper and lower body strength, postural control, motor planning, graded movement, and body awareness.

▪️Floor route with rings: Targets midline crossing, bilateral integration, sequencing, endurance, and sustained attention while navigating a patterned motor path.

▪️Therapy ball station: Strengthens core stability, shoulder girdle activation, and whole-body coordination while promoting organizing sensory input.

▪️Visual schedule: Supports flexible thinking, independence, routine-following, and clear expectations for multi-step tasks.

These types of sessions help children stay regulated and confident while developing the motor and sensory skills that support everyday success!

Congratulations to Miss Bailey, CCC-SLP!!!

She has officially completed her Clinical Fellowship and earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)!

Earning the CCC-SLP means she has:

• Graduated from an accredited master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology
• Completed over 1,260 hours of supervised clinical experience during her fellowship
• Passed the national Praxis exam
• Met all ASHA standards for independent clinical practice

This certification represents the highest professional standard in our field—showing excellence, dedication, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

We are so proud of you, Miss Bailey! 💙
