Carolina Honduras Health Foundation

Carolina Honduras Health Foundation CHHF works collaboratively with the community in the Dept. Of course, we need medical professionals to volunteer at our clinics in Honduras.

of Colón, Honduras, to improve overall health via health education, community development, medical referrals, & primary care (medical, dental, vision & pharmaceutical) clinics. Volunteers without medical training can lead teams, assist in the pharmacy, serve as interpreters, etc. Volunteers also participate with various ministry programs including providing Bible studies and helping with maintenance efforts or undertaking construction projects. If you are interested in participating in a mission trip, contact us now. Volunteers can also assist in many other ways without leaving home. Can you help promote the work of CHHF through social media or help raise funds? If you have a skill that may help our mission, contact us to volunteer.

In Honduras, as in many Latin American countries, Christmas Eve (la nochebuena) is celebrated more than Christmas Day. Families go to church, show off their new outfits, and eat a big meal together. Santa is not a big deal and may not visit many homes. However, the children WILL receive gifts on January 6th - El día de los reyes magos.

Sure, you've heard of tamales, but what about nacatamales? This dish originated in Nicaragua but is commonly prepared in Honduras for Christmas. It contains a lot more ingredients than a Mexican tamal, including things like raisins and olives. Another big difference - they're wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn husks!

Let's learn about Christmas traditions in Honduras!

Las posadas begin tonight and last for nine days. Groups led by people dressed as Mary and Joseph travel door-to-door singing traditional songs. The "pilgrims" sing a song asking for lodging, and the "innkeepers" (residents) respond back refusing entry. Eventually the group is granted entry to a home where participants pray, sing carols, and share food, drinks, and sweets, often ending with a piñata.
