19 years ago today, at age 22, I was diagnosed with Diabetes in the emergency room. I wasn’t in DKA, in fact, I never have been. This photo of me was taken by my boyfriend, now my husband, just moments before I absolutely lost my mind. The I.V. In my arm really freaked me out. Having something attached to me was the cause of a lot of distress. Now look at me! I wear a CGM all day every day! I have come a long way!!! I am putting it out there as a personal goal today to write my diagnosis story. I have not done it because it just brings up a lot of pain, anger, and sadness for me. My hospital experience was pretty bad and disappointing to say the least and it has inspired a tremendous amount of personal distrust in doctors and hospitals. Anyway, I am grateful to still be alive and kicking in spite of diabetes and in spite of bad doctors. Every single day I am alive is a miracle and every single day is a battle. 💉💉💉

DAY 24 of the ! This is me leaving my house for an 8 mile hike (24 divided by 3 is 8 and it took us almost 3 hours to do the hike including our stop for lunch and hammocking); fresh and ready to go! The next photo is from my return hike at about mile 7.5. There were many mosquitos and I had two ticks on me when I got home. 😝 It was a great hike though and a much needed dose of the great outdoors. I really want to do a longer backpacking trip and I would love to do it with people who could teach me how to manage my diabetes for long periods of time on trail. 😉💉💉

I had a procedure today where I was told to just rest, and not really do any exercise, like not even go for a walk... So I was bummed out, because I thought I would have to skip the
Day 21. challenge. But then, I thought, I’m going to do 21 minutes really mellow Chair Yoga! So I just did a simple easy flow and moved in ways that it felt good. Not pushing myself to be highly active, and just being mellow can be SUPER challenging for me. There were times when I definitely wanted to stretch beyond what I should be doing and had to stop and just be mindful of my movement! I don’t get a break from diabetes and apparently this challenge either.

Day 17. challenge. I did 17 handstand attempts. This is a nice opportunity to tackle this particular challenge for me because it’s definitely a mind game for me. I can do a handstand in front of a wall because mentally I know I will be caught, so I just go for it. Here I did a few, went over once (which was actually fine I can do a back bend), and then I called over my husband to catch my feet. Lol I feel like this is a challenge I want to keep working toward and hope to incorporate it weekly! Maybe my brain will catch up to my body soon! Also, worth mentioning - my shirt says “show me your kitties,” not whatever else you think it might say! 🙀I am a cat person and it was a gift from my friends who are also cat people. 😻

Day 16 of challenge. I am very sore from my epic workout yesterday. I kept it kind of mild today and went on an almost two mile walk and then did a 16 minute “core” Pilates workout with my Yoga Glo app! Guys, it was painful. I’m smiling in this picture, but it’s lies! My abs were already sore and that was challenging! But hey! I keep moving anyway!

May 7. Day 7. 7 minute workout! Today for the challenge with and I did the ever so famous SEVEN MINUTE WORKOUT! I actually bought the app! lol It was $3.99. I was curious... Apparently this app was sold for 23 million dollars 18 months after it was created. 🤯 It’s good for a quick workout, like on a rest day or vacation, but I’m used to lifting weights for like almost two hours and burning over 300 calories in a workout. So, I wouldn’t say it’s that challenging. But I also walked two miles and did a 20 minute Yoga practice. 💁🏻💪🏼🏋🏼🤸🏻‍♀️🧘🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🏃🏻

May 4th. Day 4. challenge with and I ran four miles, which was challenging to me. My max is usually 5k. I just took my time because I knew I could finish. It was about the journey not the speed. I got to see three different lakes on my run too! And bonus, my blood sugar was incredible all afternoon because of that run! I’m wondering what your essentials are that you take with you when you run? I have to have headphones & phone, sunglasses, tissue (my nose runs when I run - I used to just do a farmers blow, I’m trying to be more sanitary now lol), chapstick, a , and of course glucose. My preference is fruit leather because it is flat and fits easily in my pocket. Tell me in the comments what you take with you on your run! 💖🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻💖 P.S. My with Gortex are a perfect spring season running shoe! @ Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin

Day 2.
and On this second day of May, I did a super challenging Pilates class on Zoom with 13 different instructors and 100 other people all over the state of Wisconsin for ! It was one of those things that I thought might be easy, but totally was not! And then I went on a lil two mile hike too! @ Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin
