Anam Cara Caregiving

Anam Cara Caregiving Our Mission

We are here to compassionately guide you through progressive illness and end-of-life using a holistic model of care.

Anam Cara Caregiving provides custom care near the end of life, offering caregiving support and bedside care at any stage of aging and dying so residents of Fremont County have the option to stay at home as the need for assistance increases over time. ANAM CARA
is a Gaelic phrase which loosely
translates as ‘Soul friend.’
In Celtic tradition, an Anam
Cara exercises trust, honesty,
compassion, and

acceptance in
relationships and is an integral
companion during times
of transition. We bridge gaps in the medical system—through custom caregiving, education, and emotional support—so you can experience a connected and meaningful life through all stages of the natural life-cycle.

Anam Cara welcomes Heather Wisniewski to our board of directors!

Heather moved to Lander in 1998 to work for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), not realizing it would soon become home. Like many who find their way to Lander, she quickly fell in love with the strong sense of community and the easy access to wild places that make this place so special.

Heather began her career as an outdoor educator before shifting into philanthropy in 2008, where she discovered that fundraising is ultimately about connection—helping people support the causes and communities they care most deeply about. Over the years she has worked with several mission-driven organizations, including NOLS, The Nature Conservancy (both locally and globally), and now serves as Vice President of Advancement for Semester at Sea.

Heather lives in Lander with her husband, Chris, and their sweet pups. Like many families, she is also navigating the realities of supporting aging parents from afar. That experience has deepened her appreciation for the compassionate support Anam Cara provides to individuals and families facing illness, caregiving, and end-of-life transitions. She is grateful to support an organization that helps people remain cared for, connected, and at home during life’s most tender moments.

Jagoe Warren joins our board of directors at Anam Cara!

Jagoe has lived in Lander for over 26 years. In the late 1990s, while living out of her van and traveling through the West, she landed a nursing job in town from a pay phone. That phone call welcomed her into a community with open arms and open doors. Jagoe took that spirit to heart and has spent the decades since caring for and giving back to the community that first embraced her.

With a nursing career spanning more than 36 years, Jagoe has gathered a wide and varied caregiving skill set along the way. During her time in Lander she expanded her work to include being a massage therapist, birth doula, personal trainer, yoga teacher, and business owner—each role deepening her understanding of whole-person care.

Her time as a caregiver with Anam Cara touched a place in her heart that felt like home. The organization’s commitment to compassionate, relationship-centered care at the end of life reflects the kind of caregiving Jagoe has always valued most deeply.

Outside of work, Jagoe can often be found exploring trails on her mountain bike, dancing wildly in her kitchen, sewing and tie-dyeing, or enjoying live music. Above all, her family is the center of her world.

Anam Cara Circle of Care is filled with gratitude for a year of deep connection and meaningful service. This year, we walked alongside 47 elders and their caregiving families, supported 75 community members through outreach programs like In Caring Company community conversations and Soul Friend Suppers, and gathered together in beautiful moments like our Garden Gathering. With the generosity of over 200 caring donors, we continue to embody the values of a loving community.

Looking ahead, we have three upcoming In Caring Company community education events. If there’s a topic you’d like to explore around aging and caregiving, we’re available to host Soul Friend Suppers for you and a small group of friends. Reach out to us at community@anamcaracaregiving.org
