One of the things we were most excited about in 2020 was moving into a new studio space! We started off just in a spare room in my house, and have transitioned into our garage, which is about nine times bigger! It’s something that felt like a tangible shift of growth, which was very encouraging during a year like last. 😄 We moved in just in time for Sarah and Gray’s beautiful wedding! Spreading out and filling the space with all of the best tones, flowers, and greenery fall has to offer felt so right. Having a good workspace makes all the difference, and I think the flowering we did that week shows that. Between excellent flowers, renewed space, talented freelancers, the wonderful bride and groom, and exceptional vendors, this is a wedding that will stick out in my memory for a long time. And yours too, probably, as I am going to be sharing a lot photos from this wedding! 😍

Hey friends! It’s a new month and we are back! Having the latitude to rest and recover from last year was much needed, making a quiet January a month well spent. I’m still rather exhausted, but happy to be looking forward to a new year of new possibilities. This is a fun time of zooming out to look over this year and next as weddings are booked, but also zooming in to examine each week to map out each day in order to tackle my series of lists, find new ways to be present, and make room to dream a little. How has your winter been so far? I’d love to hear about it!

Hey there, friends! 👋🏻 We’ve just finished a long string of wedding weekends and will be back to a more normal posting schedule soon! Once I catch my breath that is 😉 I’m super excited to get back on here and share what we’ve been working on in this season. And what better way to kick that off than this gorgeous shot of the flowers from Ansley’s wedding in August. 😍 Her neutral leaning palette is one of my favorites from this year. Some soft, fluffy, romantic goodness right here!!

One of our last weddings in June was incredibly chill. I feel that I work with many a chill bride, but Jaime emulated this quality in particular. Her spirit reached into and beyond chill to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere. During a stressful year, she was solid, calm, charming and thoughtful. And that is so important, because being kind to others even while you have a lot going on takes effort. And Jaime was more than generous in that regard. Such a special quality. ✨ Thank you for being such a wonderful bride, Jaime! You’re so cool! @ The Rutherford

Hey friends! I hope you all have been well. After a much needed rest from social media, I’m finally coming back. 🙌🏻 Still feeling fatigue and loss, but also always returning to feeling thankful. At the moment, thankful for flowers and the surges of excitement each wedding brings. Sometimes my excitement is quiet cooing, assuring each bloom how beautiful they are. Sometimes the excitement is more of a squawk, as though it’s the very first time I’ve seen a flower in my life 😂🦜Either way, moments of joy. I have several weddings to catch you up on, so plan to hear more from me about each special lady we’ve designed for these past two months. 😊

When I was 12, my mom and I were watching the news. An adoption feature for two black young men came up. Somehow, my mom and I knew instantly that we wanted to invite them into our family. No question.
▫️
The twins, Ranell and Danell, are medically fragile. We later adopted two more medically fragile boys, Angel (who is Latino), and Danny (who is white). I have a biological sister with special needs as well. So, my sisters and I paired with a sibling, our “care buddies”, to help my parents with the efforts in caring for everyone each day.
▫️
My buddy was Danell. I fed him each day, provided medication, packed his lunch for school, helped him hold a baseball bat at little league, tucked him in (he LOVED getting snuggled in blankets), and held him so he could “swim” in the pool.
▫️
When I would hear racist comments being made about him and Ranell, I was baffled. Why would anyone hate them? They did nothing to deserve these comments. And, due to their conditions, they could not speak to defend themselves. How dare you insult someone at all? How dare you insult someone who can’t even talk? It’s cowardice, it’s malicious, and it’s wrong. But is calling someone out at the dinner table enough?
▫️
On this day in March 2020, Danell passed away at the age of 26. I was and am still devastated by this loss. I miss him dearly. My brother, my friend, my joy.
▫️
I know I’ve done a good job loving my siblings, but the time is overdue to extend that love far and wide. Not just in sentiment but in action. Speaking up at the dinner table helps, but that alone is not enough. How can I care for the people around me with the same amount of love and compassion I gave Danell?
▫️
Furthermore, is not the life of your fellow human more important? Shouldn’t our BASELINE for how we treat each other be led by love, understanding and advocacy?
▫️
If extending this love means I lose followers and clients, good. If wanting to grow and change my perspective loses followers and clients, good. But I do hope you’ll join me in this journey of growth and action. I hope to grow with you, deepen my understanding with you, and stand with you. I will never apologize for that.

"The human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, and love, these are what we stay alive for." — Robin Williams as John Keating.

What’s still one of the weirdest things about the pandemic for you guys?
🌿
One of mine is the difference in structure. I’ve adjusted to the lack of my beloved weekends of designing, camaraderie, running around, and that amazing feeling you get when you’re sighing in satisfaction as everything comes together beautifully. I’ve adjusted to looking at wedding planning differently, and having bigger holes in my schedule that would have been spent meeting with friends or drive time for meetings with brides.
☕️
But getting to a day like today, where anything is possible and I can spend my time on any which thing, is weird. Not necessarily a good or bad weird, but just a neutral feeling. The next few weekends will be structured with busy morning deliveries and free afternoons, but for this weekend, I’m taking a little time to marinate in space, time, and possibilities before deciding what to do. And it’s nice. 🙌🏻
