Omicron (B.1.1.529): Infectivity, vaccine breakthrough, and antibody resistance.

The latest severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant Omicron (B.1.1.529) has ushered panic responses around the world due to its contagious and vaccine escape mutations. The essential infectivity and antibody resistance of the SARS-CoV-2 variant are determined by its mutations on the spike (S) protein receptor-binding domain (RBD). However, a complete experimental evaluation of Omicron might take weeks or even months. Here, we present a comprehensive quantitative analysis of Omicron’s infectivity, vaccine-breakthrough, and antibody resistance. For further information please follow the link, below:

Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma: What’s important to know about SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern?

The World Health Organization recently announced a new naming system for SARS-CoV-2 variants using the Greek alphabet. The new naming system is aimed at preventing people from referring to the variants by the country where they were first detected. Four of these variants of concern — Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma — have spread to most provinces and territories in Canada. For further information, please follow the link below:

Pregnant people and people who were recently pregnant are more likely to become very sick and die from COVID-19 compared with non-pregnant people. As of September 13, more than 120,000 pregnant people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since January 22, 2020.

Vaccination for pregnant people is more urgent than ever. If you are pregnant or were recently pregnant, getting vaccinated is one of the best steps you can take to protect yourself and your baby.

You may have heard about the Mu variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the news recently. Right now, this variant’s presence is steadily decreasing and is causing no more than 0.2% of cases in the United States.

COVID-19 vaccines used in the United States help protect against all known variants, including Mu and Delta.

CDC will continue to monitor Mu and other variants.

Delta Variant: What We Know About the Science
Updated Aug. 26, 2021
On July 27, 2021, CDC released updated guidance on the need for urgently increasing COVID-19 vaccination coverage and a recommendation for everyone in areas of substantial or high transmission to wear a mask in public indoor places, even if they are fully vaccinated. CDC issued this new guidance due to several concerning developments and newly emerging data signals.
First, a significant increase in new cases reversed what had been a steady decline since January 2021. In the days leading up to our guidance update, CDC saw a rapid and alarming rise in the COVID-19 case and hospitalization rates around the country. For more, check the link, below:

About Variants of the Virus that Causes COVID-19
Updated June 28, 2021

Information about the characteristics of these variants is rapidly emerging. Scientists are working to learn more about how easily they spread, whether they could cause more severe illness, and whether currently authorized vaccines will protect people against them.

What We know

Viruses constantly change through mutation, and new variants of a virus are expected to occur. Sometimes new variants emerge and disappear. Other times, new variants persist. Multiple variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been documented in the United States and globally during this pandemic. FOR MORE, CHECK THIS LINK -

TESTIMONIALS : -
Susan E - I have had the blessing of being a patient of Dr. Cara Fanning two separate times over the past two years.
Dr. Fanning is an incredible doctor and a wonderful, caring person. She has taken care of me following several difficult surgeries and I was always confident that she wanted the best for me.
She is always completely devoted to her patients. She has gone above and beyond for me with great results. I would not trust my care to anyone other than Dr. Fanning.

Marlin C - In June 2020, I had surgery performed on my lower back. I had the good fortune of having Dr.
Cara Fanning as my infection specialist.
Although my surgery was successful, my recovery was
prolonged for several months in that the incision site just would not heal.
The imminent risk throughout the healing process was the risk of infection. Thanks to Dr. Fanning and her caring staff, Anis, Kristine and Monse, my recovery was totally absent of any signs of infection.
Dr. Fanning's knowledge, skill and attention to my care, and her personal encouragement is greatly
appreciated.
During my treatment by Dr. Fanning, other medical professionals were also involved. They reviewed Dr. Fanning's treatment regimen and lab results regularly in order to address their treatment requirements.
I found without exception, each of these professionals hold Dr. Fanning in very high esteem.
Thank you, Dr. Cara Fanning

Kristine S. RN - Working with Dr. Fanning has been one of the highlights of my nursing career.
Her great attention to detail, expertise, compassion, confidence, knowledge, skill, and love for her patients is truly unmatched. Her talent is extraordinary and very rare in this day and age.
She navigates confidently and thoroughly through the most complicated diagnosis and can distinguish even the most sophisticated of diseases.
I have seen and heard from our patients over and over again how they had gone through so many doctors and nobody could give them a definite answer, but as soon as they met Dr. Fanning, she was able to diagnose their medical condition and immediately placed them under superior, high quality, world-class care.
Patients love her and would talk widely about her with great enthusiasm and admiration to me.
She takes her time to answer all of their questions, calming their fears and anxieties.
She is overprotective of her patients and will monitor every department and every other healthcare worker managing their care. She is fierce and fights for her patients.
She has the brightest mind, the kindest spirit, and the most loving heart that will make her patients automatically comfortable on the very first day they meet her, and then she would become unforgettable to them and to me.
I always looked forward to going to work because of her. I appreciated every teaching moment she shared with me, every moment she took to correct me and make me into a better nurse, and the moments that she made me laugh with her great sense of humor.
I truly count it as a great honor to have met and have worked with Nevada’s #1 Infectious Disease doctor - Dr. Fanning.
I truly love her with all my heart and there are no words to describe how amazing she is.

Hopper C, Esq - Just wanted to let y’all know how much I appreciate and respect Dr. Fanning and her clinic staff.

In so far as Dr. Fanning is concerned, she has been one of the most intelligent and professional doctors I’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with, both while in the hospital and in her clinic. If something needs to be done while in the hospital or in her clinic, I never worry about it as I know it will be handled by her or her clinic staff and done so swiftly and efficiently.

Dr. Fanning is a no-nonsense physician, who has patient’s health and overall best interest at heart.

Anytime I see her, she takes her time with me to explain and discuss anything and everything to my complete satisfaction. I have and will continue to recommend her to anyone.

Finally, when dealing with her clinic staff, they have always been on top of everything and accommodating beyond belief.

I am so thankful to have Dr. Fanning as my doctor, as would anyone else who has been blessed with her services and assistance.

Thank you, Dr. Fanning for your awesomeness. You rock!

Rodriguez, M. LPN - As Dr. Fanning's former nurse I used to be in charge of preparing her clinical days and had the honor to work with her weekly.

I saw firsthand how her dedication to each patient was passionately individualized.

She is one of the most savvy doctors I've met and loves to share her knowledge with others that she inspires when she teaches.

She gives precise care to every patient and they love to tell me how much Dr. Fanning has helped them. She has so many loyal patients who claim she has saved their lives, from low-income patients to the very wealthy.

Dr. Fanning will NEVER discriminate race, income or personal preference, she will remain objective to give the best and timely care.

She will go above and beyond for the most sickly patients regardless of health insurance, once a patient is under Dr. Fanning's good name, she will take care of you.

She has a stupendous sense of humor that will cheer up any depressed sickly patient.

Her professionalism inspires me to be a better nurse during these trying times for the healthcare workplace.

I left the clinic due to maternity leave, but I've learned and grown so much with her that I'll miss working with her. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER.

Rice, F - For many years I was plagued by difficulty breathing, extreme gastrointestinal distress, insomnia, and mental disturbances.

This all came to a head in 2019 when I had a full-on psychotic experience which lasted days and reached its peak upon using Nystatin, which I was given to treat tongue thrush.

I was convinced from the bizarre and extreme physiological and mental effects of the Nystatin that I had some kind of fungal infection beyond just a bit of candida overgrowth.

Every doctor I saw told me that my blood tests were normal and, from what they could tell, I was healthy. Despite that, I could not shake the belief that I was infected by a fungus.

A psychiatrist diagnosed me as having obsessive-compulsive disorder and a delusional belief about being infected. Still, I persisted and begged to have every test I could get for detecting
fungal infection. Sure enough, high levels of histoplasma antibodies were found in my blood.

I was put into the “care” of an infectious disease specialist who, unbeknownst to me at the time, was a total quack and was giving me the incorrect antifungal drugs.

It was my good fortune that I happened to know a surgeon, Dr. Anis Khair, who knew that I was seeing a quack and recommended I see someone else (incidentally, later, I found out that the “doctor” I was seeing had his license suspended).

Dr. Khair presented me with a list of the top infectious disease specialists in Las Vegas to choose from, personally recommending Dr. Fanning.

I’m glad that I went with his recommendation, because Dr. Fanning turned out to be excellent and is among the best doctors I’ve ever had.

She gave me the correct medication and was extremely thorough in her tests.

Dr. Fanning actually cares about her patients and wants to get to the root of what’s wrong with them, rather than just take their money. She will administer only the absolute best treatment
according to the best objective and empirical evidence known.

After receiving care from Dr. Fanning, my histoplasma antibodies have dropped to an undetectable level, and I feel better than I have in a long time.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. I highly recommend Dr. Fanning! Dr. Cara Fanning saved my life.

Mungaray, S - I had been seeing Dr. Fanning for a wound that would not heal on my back. She kept such a good eye on infections and treated as needed. She pays so much attention to detail, she finds things other Doctors have overlooked. She spends the time it takes to be extremely thorough. She sits down with you and goes over everything, she misses nothing!

Her bed side manner is what you would expect from your mother, not someone who doesn't know you. Dr. C. Fanning is one of the best Doctors I Know and unfortunately I have been to a lot of Doctors in the last 5 years.

I have had three more surgeries since I have met Dr Fanning. She continues to take of care me and make sure everything is healing properly, she comes to the hospitals and calls me at home to check on me, not many Doctors care for their patients like she does.

She is always there for me, no matter the day or time, she is there!

Thank you, Dr Fanning for being such a great and caring Doctor. You are truly the BEST!

Hedrick, L - It is my pleasure to share my extraordinary experiences about the care I received from Dr. Cara Fanning, infectious disease specialist. Her reputation proceeded her: she is unapologetically direct in conversation and manner; she Is articulate and precise about the course of therapy to treat the specific condition; and she is present, listening intently to her patients, both what is said and desired and what is left unsaid.

Dr. Fanning treated me as inpatient on three occasions in 2020: June, August, and September. Over the course of these admissions, I had different Infectious concerns that were complicated by a cancer diagnosis with aggressive treatment. During those inpatient stays, I would see Dr. Fanning making rounds early in the morning and late in the evening. She was attentive to the patients and the staff.

After the last discharge, I was prescribed intravenous (IV) antibiotics, to which I had an allergic reaction that resulted in my first call to Dr. Fanning as an outpatient. She, personally, called me back within 30 minutes of my call and adjusted my medications and provided guidance on next steps. Two more times during the IV therapy I called her, and both times she responded within 30 minutes. To receive a single call back directly from the physician or to receive a response within 30 minutes, either of these could be considered extraordinary in the current state of health care. However, she accomplished both three times!

I had occasion to follow-up with Dr. Fanning several more times after my IV therapy concluded. These visits further cemented what I had come to know and believe about Dr. Fanning. She is emblematic of what medicine should be: a partnership between physician and patient for the betterment of the patient. Dr. Fanning possesses the technical and medical expertise as evidenced by the fact that I, and her other patients, got better. Discussions with staff in the inpatient and outpatient setting revealed that she is viewed as an expert in her field.

If that were not enough to demonstrate how extraordinary Dr. Fanning and my experiences were, I share that she demonstrated a humanity and personal connection.

Because of our shared United Kingdom ancestry, we talked about things other than my immediate treatment or care needs. We formed a kinship over the trajectory of my care. She shared personal anecdotes, pictures, and viewpoint on current and past events here and abroad. She took time to get to know me. She listened to me, from the first encounter until our last. I felt as though I was the only patient for whom she was caring. I was not just another patient, diagnosis, and condition; I was special. Her presentation, while direct, was honest, open, and engaging. This evoked trust, knowing that she took the time to get to know me as a patient and as a fellow human being.

If I have need of an infectious disease specialist, she would be the one I would choose. Across multiple settings and episodes of care, I came to trust Dr. Fanning with my life and would willingly do so again.
