my favorite summer memories as a kid are those days at the lake or pool when you get that right amount of sun, a cheesy meal and crash out in the car for 40 minutes on the way home. it was as though the nap helped you seal in the deliciousness of the day.

my favorite summer memories now are watching my son doze off in the passenger seat next to me after a sun filled day of fun.

now mom needs her own nap…. to a beautiful morning out on the river paddling.

you all know, I love food and to cook. i favor simple recipes with clean, fresh ingredients with a bit of spice.

while i have the recipes in my kitchen figured out, i have been trying to perfect the recipe of my life.

balancing an autoimmune disorder that likes to flare up - all the time - and a type a personality who loves to churn out new business concepts and really loving my role as mom makes finding this life recipe so challenging for me. i bounce between periods of extended health issues and not working much to overworking and - in both cases - always missing out on the joys of life. burning the candle at both ends doesn’t leave a lot of room
for happy.

coming off a couple weeks in mexico, my life recipe is coming together. simplicity and boundaries are key. forgoing the fancy for wholesome ingredients saying “no” to dangling carrots of opportunities that don’t fit within my boundaries.

periods of work and rest planned together and honored with grace. create and produce, but take long surf lunch breaks with my mini and hiking-yoga meditations into the hills for a few hours. placing reading, writing and teaching on my favorite stovetop burner (you know you have one too). explore life and love as much as i work.

tablespoons of productivity with equal parts rest. teaspoons of spontaneity. pounds of joy.

and now off to work on my aguachile recipe.. and take some client calls.

Im not sure it’s possible to find your soul without losing your mind. At least a little bit. I think finding your soul requires living in the now, in the present. Losing your mind is letting go of those thoughts anchoring you to your past and spiraling you into your future.

IT CAN WAIT.

A Monday holiday followed by an insanely busy week… And a calendar on Friday that looks like a Monday.

Three beautiful magical little words came out of my mouth to my staff and myself – IT CAN WAIT.

Work waited while I prioritized going to pilates today. Work tasks have waited while I’ve caught up on rest, cooked, and prioritized my son. We rescheduled Friday tasks to a slower day of the week.

IT CAN WAIT.

Laundry has been waiting since Monday in the dryer.. and the washer too.

IT CAN WAIT.

The vacuum is still sitting in the hallway. Plugged in.
