Let’s get real: fearing weight gain while idolizing being “slightly underweight” is actually backwards. Studies show that being underweight (and even being on the low end of what’s traditionally called “normal”) carries higher all-cause mortality risk than being slightly overweight.
For example:
• A large meta-analysis found that those with BMI < 18.5 (underweight) had significantly increased mortality, while those in BMI 25-
