To answer your questions about Indigo, our sweet girl, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning.💔
She was scheduled for a vet appointment today because she seemed a little "off" during our yoga sessions last weekend - walking around and licking people when she typically picked a spot or a human to lie near. Just two months ago, her senior exam was totally fine, except for a small tumor on her neck that we had successfully removed. The good news was the pathology showed it was low-grade and completely removed.
Indigo was pure presence. A calm soul. A steady, loving energy who showed up for so many of us just by being near. She taught us how to soften, how to rest, how to love without words.
Many of you are curious about what happened since you last saw her on Sunday, so I will share. It’s just so incredibly sad and I can’t tell the story without ugly crying, so please don’t ask when you see me next. Now it’s up to you if you’d like to continue reading…
Mark was over on Tuesday night, it was perfect weather, so we took Indigo for a long, leisurely walk and allowed her to be off leash when it was safe so she could sniff and mark - she was great in every way.
Wednesday, February 4th began like every other day. Indie jumped on the bed and wedged her way between us, her head between ours, getting and giving love as she did every morning. Mark left for work and Indigo and I started the day with the usual stuff, including feeding her and the kitties. She ate, went in the yard to p*e and p**p, and even played with me with the ball outside. Around 7:30am she began nudging and sassing me for the morning walk, so we suited up and got outside during a lovely Las Vegas morning. Martha kitty walked with us to the adjacent neighborhood and all was status quo. A neighbor's loose dog chased Martha, which put Indigo on high alert, but she obeyed the "leave it" command and we changed course to head back towards home. Minutes later, Indie collapsed on the sidewalk and looked panicked. I knew something was terribly wrong and began calling neighbors, friends who I know have flexible schedules, the vets office. Unable to lift her 85 lbs easily, I was thankful when a young man we routinely passed helped me load her into the car. I couldn't drive because Indie was fading so fast, so our friend, Melanie, met us to drive. As Melanie drove, I reassured and loved Indie in the back of the van. I can’t remember exactly what I was saying to her, but Melanie’s text yesterday is so helpful to my healing right now. We arrived at our vet's office, but less than 40 minutes after collapsing, Indigo passed away.
Thank you, Indigo, for every gentle nudge, every quiet moment, every breath you helped us slow down and notice. You spread joy everywhere you went! You will always be part of our practice, our community, and our hearts. 🌈🐾
Rest easy, sweet girl. I will never stop missing you.
