Some people may get unhappy or upset when they don't see the numbers on the scale moving the way that they want. Weighing yourself too often and worrying about gains or losses can lead to unhealthy habits, such as disordered eating and skipping meals, just to see the scale move. Use your scale as a tool or it could become a crutch!

We all love our coffee but what creamer are you using or are you drinking your cup of Joe black? If you are using a basic powdered creamer did you know that you are starting your day with corn syrup, vegetable oil, hydrogenated oils basically crap. Did you also know that half and half would be a much healthier option and a sugar free syrup like Torani sweetened with Stevia or Splenda. Check out this article. We just started using Nutpods because it’s 10 calories per TBSP and not full of a bunch of fillers. The verdict is still out but it’s better than starting our day with a bunch of chemicals. Let me know your thoughts!

Keep the calories at bay when prepping your morning coffee with these healthy store-bought coffee creamer picks.

Happy Friday everyone! A quick update. Yesterday I pushed my fasting time to 29 hours which was way longer than I expected. I actually could have gone longer! It’s not that I was starving or even a slight bit hungry. I started to feel my blood sugar dropping significantly and just felt like it was time to break my fast. The key is to listen to your. Body and what it is telling you. After the 29 hour fast I started with a protein shake, then chicken noodle soup and crackers. Obviously my body said give me protein, sodium and potassium now! I honestly had zero cravings and zero appetite. I really thought after fasting that long i would be at the Jack In The Crack drive thru or ravaging through my pantry at any junk I could get my hands on. Nope. So I ate less than 500 calories after my fasting and went to sleep. Woke up very refreshed and thought I would be starving this morning. Nope. Not a craving. Today started with one scoop Kachava and one scoop of shakeology and one scoop of whey isolate. Today the thought of food and cravings are the farthest thing from my mind. Besides It’s warming up outside and time to get back to it. It feels good to cleanse and reset my system not to mention it will be 90 degrees today in Vegas so can you say pool season is right around the corner? For those of you still in freezing temperatures don’t be jelly. Anyway..

Have an amazing day!

Mark

I accomplished a very nice 24 hour fast today! I have been doing IF for several months but generally 16/8 and occasionally push myself to 18 and 20 hour fasts. When I first started doing intermittent fasting I struggled with 12 hours without food.

If you are looking to give intermittent fasting a try just know that you too can do it. You start where you start and go for as long as you can handle and progress from there. It is not necessary to fast for 16 hours but that should be one of your goals. Think of intermittent fasting as a specific timed eating or feeding window. When you fast for 16 hours you eat all of you meals for the day in an 8 hour period. Btw those 16 hours also include the time that you are sleeping so you can see how easy it would be to begin a 13 hour fast and master it.

Are you currently doing IF or a similar program? IF is all the rage right now and many people use this eating strategy for weight management, blood pressure control, mind clarity, cleansing, resetting your system, craving control, spiritual purposes and reducing inflammation among many other benefits. There are a lot of great tools out there to help you with your fasting journey. I personally use a free app called Zero when I want to track how long I have fasted for and what hours i am feeding and fueling my body. It’s free so check it out!

Hope everyone is healthy and well,

A lot of people are confused about what sweetener to use in their morning cup of tea or coffee or as an an added ingredient in their protein or meal replacement shakes. I prefer and recommend Stevia or Monk Fruit. This post will focus on Stevia and all of it benefits.

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday to you and yours. In the spirit of immunity and protecting yourself from free radical damage as well as other “things” I want to put some emphasis on the holy grail Vitamin C. Did you know in high dosages ie 1000-3000mg it is known to create hydrogen peroxide inside your body, hey isn’t that a disinfectant? Hey doesn’t that protect you from outside hazards and toxins? Yep it sure can! C is also amazing for muscle recovery, reduced inflammatory response and muscle repair among many other benefits. Check out this article and I’m here if you should have any questions. FYI for those of you that do not know I’m a certified sports nutritionist and a certified advanced personal trainer and we are able to recommend micronutrients and that included all vitamins and mineral through structured meal planning and other sources!

With all the uncertainty and fear going around at this time it’s easy to get caught up in all the negativity and go to a very dark place. I am guilty of this as it is part of human nature, sometimes you just have to feel it, process it and that’s ok, then when you are ready, you can dig yourself out of that dark hole and focus on the light! Remember we are all in this together❤️

Amidst the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve seen firsthand the importance of supporting a healthy immune system. Proper nutrition is a cornerstone of a “health-first” strategy and essential vitamins and minerals, like Vitamin C, are highly efficient ways to support your daily health and wellness.

While all the gyms are closed and most of you are sedentary, it’s a good time to focus on your eating habits, you need a deficit in either caloric intake or activity or both to lose body fat. Since I’m doubting most of you are doing much in the area of exercise because of lack of knowledge, motivation, lack of equipment, feeling out of your element etc.

It’s crucial that you put focus on your daily eating habits during this downtime. It is not uncommon to gain 10-15 pounds in 4-6 weeks if you keep your caloric intake the same as it was when you were working out 3 days per week. For example: It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound of fat, on the opposite spectrum it also takes an excess of 3500 calories to put on one pound of fat. This is not hard to accomplish when you order take out, stress eat and add cookies, ice cream and other junk food to your daily diet. To lose fat during this time it’s a smart idea to reduce your daily caloric intake by 500, that’s a loss of one pound of fat per week. If you don’t know how many calories you are eating in a day, that’s where I would recommend that you start. At this time the rule of calories in vs calories out apply!

These are general guidelines of course and may vary depending on your specific body type, matabolism, hormone imbalances etc.

Hope this helps you in some way during these crazy and unpredictable times.

Yours in health and fitness and nutrition:)
