In ABA, antecedent strategies are a cornerstone of effective behavior support. By proactively modifying the environment, providing clear cues, and setting up situations for success, we can prevent challenging behaviors before they occur. Strong antecedent strategies not only increase the likelihood of desired behaviors but also reduce the need for reactive interventions. Planning ahead—through structured routines, visual supports, and carefully designed prompts—empowers learners to engage more successfully and independently. In short, the way we set the stage often determines the outcome: thoughtful antecedent strategies are key to promoting positive behavior change.
