It doesn’t take a big gesture to make a difference.

One check-in, one conversation, or one connection can save a life. The new Kansas Su***de Prevention State Plan highlights how everyday actions—like asking someone how they’re doing, listening without judgment, or sharing resources—strengthen communities and provide hope to those who may be struggling.

Talking about mental health and su***de can feel intimidating, but avoiding the topic can make someone feel isolated.

Our new State Plan encourages safe, open discussions in schools, workplaces, and homes to reduce stigma and help people feel supported.

Even small actions, like asking ‘How are you doing?’ or sharing resources like 988, can encourage someone to reach out and get help early.

You don’t need to be a clinician to help. Our new State Plan encourages training teachers, faith leaders, and peer mentors so more people in our communities know how to recognize risk and connect someone to help.

Programs like QPR or ASIST provide practical skills to respond to warning signs, start conversations, and make referrals.

Getting trained empowers you and strengthens your whole community.
