Cold weather has a way of shaping us. I believe this teaches us discipline, resilience, and the kind of grace we often forget to give ourselves.
Discipline shows up when moving your body feels like the last thing you want to do. Especially this cold weather here in Texas. The roads are slippery, the air is sharp to the throat, and running outside isnāt even safe. Yet, here I am, still choosing to move, still honoring my one of the non-negotiable to exercise. It may look different, slower, or indoors, but showing up in any form is still showing up. Discipline isnāt about perfection. Itās about consistency when motivation is scarce.
Resilience is found in the shift. In going from cozy, cuddled-up, hot-chocolate weather to doing the things that nourish your soul. Opening a book. Writing in your journal. Adding pieces to your vision board. Itās the ability to bounce between comfort and commitment without losing yourself in either. Itās choosing growth even when rest feels more tempting.
And then there is grace. The permission to pause. The understanding that you wonāt always maximize every moment of this season, and that is okay. This weather wonāt last forever. Neither will the heaviness or the stillness. āThis too shall pass,ā not as a warning, but as a comfort. A reminder that slowing down is sometimes exactly what your body and mind need.
So I play my favorite music. I reflect on how the year has just begun. I let myself breathe. Winter doesnāt rush, and maybe neither should I. In this cold weather, Iām learning that strength isnāt only about pushing forwardā¦itās also about knowing when to soften, listen, and rest.
