There is nothing more powerful than a child’s imagination.

Today at a 2 year old’s birthday, eight little ones turned this tiny playhouse into a full-blown café. Orders were taken, food was “served,” and laughter filled every corner. No business plan, no funding, no red tape, just pure creativity at work.

And it reminded us exactly why we are doing this.

If they can dream it this big in a backyard, imagine what they will do in a space built just for them. We cannot wait to give them a real café, a real town, and a place where their ideas get to grow.

This is just the beginning. 💡

We came by our building this morning for our plan review and walk-through with our contractors and got to go across the street for the grand opening of Remnant Coffee!

We can’t wait to have our “Third Place” adult area showcase a QR to place orders for the fancy coffee at our across the street neighbor’s café!

Well done, Jordan! You did a wonderful job!

ALSO… Thank you P&M for taking on this 💡 incubator project that will mean so much to so many in Our Little Town, we are very happy!

(these are snapshots of our working plans, they might change, but we’re too excited to not share with you guys the progress!)

The Incubator is where ideas go to grow, where a place, a concept, or a collaboration comes to life. We believe when people come together, new ideas are sparked, shared, and shaped. It exists to cultivate a culture of people supporting people and to create a true third place where community can gather, connect, and belong outside of home and work.

The Incubator Foundation is intentional about the projects it takes on, so donors can see what they support. That may look like helping a small business bring an idea to life that generates its own ongoing revenue. It may look like creating a space for adults to gather in meaningful conversation or building a safe space for children to use their imagination.

At its core, this is where thoughtful ideas turn into real spaces, real opportunities, and real change. It gives benefactors confidence that they are helping build something lasting for the community and the legacy it chooses to create for itself.

Today was a big step forward for Our Little Town.

We just finished meeting with the draftsman to start working on the floor plans, and we have to say…this might be one of the most fun design meetings we’ve ever had.

We talked through placing the staggered tiny storefront spaces, designing a theater for kids to play pretend (complete with a ring light so they can take their own pictures), and a party room in the back for private birthday parties.

And one of our favorite details…a toddler-size sink and teeny tiny toilet designed just for our littlest visitors.

If you’ve ever watched a toddler try to use a grown-up sink, you know exactly why this matters. Our Little Town is being designed from the ground up with kids in mind, right down to the smallest details.

Next up is doing the takeoff and start identifying how many grants we can secure to help offset the expense of building this special place.

We are also meeting with our focus team this week to help curate which industries our town needs to represent.

And today we had one of those little moments that reminds us we’re on the right path.

A very experienced and well-connected grant writer reached out and offered to help, simply because she wants her grandkids to be able to enjoy what we’re building here.

Those kinds of moments feel like little Godwinks along the way.

Every day this vision gets a little more real, and we can’t wait to keep sharing the progress as Our Little Town begins to take shape.

“Our Little Town” is settling into Downtown Leeds.

We are excited to introduce “Our Little Town,” a place where kids get to run the town through tiny little versions of real businesses designed as interactive spaces where children can imagine, explore, and discover what sparks their interests. From builders to doctors to café owners to gym owners and even little interior designers, kids can step into these roles and play out big ideas in a town built just for them.

While the kids are busy running the town, mamas, dads, grandparents, and caregivers can relax and enjoy each other’s company. You might call in a coffee order right across the street at Remnant Coffee, grab some ice cream at Sweet Caroline's if the kids are minding that day, pick up a casserole from The Three Earred for dinner, browse for a new book at The Burrow Bookstore or Leeds Jane Culbreth Library, shop at Mum & me mercantile or Pants Store, or even grab a new memory foam pillow from Overstock Mattress & Beds while you’re downtown. All of these are real businesses located just steps away, making it easy to enjoy the whole area before or after visiting “Our Little Town.”

“Our Little Town” is the first project of The Incubator Foundation, an Alabama nonprofit corporation based in Historic Downtown Leeds. The project is designed to spark creativity, confidence, and curiosity while connecting young minds to the businesses and community that make our town so special.

We look forward to working with the City of Leeds and its supporting organizations to bring this much-needed opportunity to our community while also supporting our neighboring businesses, so our real little town can continue to grow and thrive.

We will be building our website and finalizing construction plans with our focus group this week, and we are currently targeting a late 2026 opening.

If you would like to learn more or follow along as this project grows, send us a message. We cannot wait to share what comes next.

Coming Fall of 2026 to Downtown Leeds! “Our Little Town” 💡 an incubator project.

A town small enough for little hands, big enough for big ideas. At Our Little Town, kids run the town through hands-on play and junior versions of real businesses, exploring, creating, and dreaming big. Located in the historic downtown of Leeds, Alabama, this imaginative space is the first project of The Incubator Foundation.
