We are beyond grateful to our incredible Lee’s Summit community for voting us, Maternal Mental Health KC & The Holding Space KC Best in Therapy & Counseling! 🩵

When we opened our doors here in January 2025, we never could have imagined receiving this kind of recognition so soon. It’s truly an honor to serve and support families through the perinatal journey—creating a space where healing, connection, and understanding can grow.

Thank you for welcoming us so warmly and trusting us with your stories. Here’s to continuing to build a compassionate community together.

💙 At PSI Kansas, our mission is to ensure that no parent struggles alone. That’s why we want to share and uplift this important call to action from the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health.

The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health is urging the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) to preserve its recommendations on maternal mental health screening and early intervention — a critical safeguard that helps save lives.

👉 Read the full statement and learn why protecting these guidelines matters: https://policycentermmh.org/our-call-to-preserve-uspstf-maternal-mental-health-recommendations/?emci=ad0aed53-d779-f011-b481-6045bdfe8e9c&emdi=65d5105b-047a-f011-b481-6045bdfe8e9c&ceid=8687163

We stand with our partners and advocates across the country in calling for strong, evidence-based maternal mental health care.

Perinatal mood disorders are a family of Bipolar Disorders. This can look like high highs and low lows, and it can make someone not act like themselves. For some, it's less extreme highs and lows and more like mood swings, where some days you can get a lot of things done and other days it seems difficult to even feed yourself, let alone care for a child. It can present as not needing sleep, or needing so much sleep that it's interfering with your ability to function. Often people who are struggling with mood disorders have to manage their impulsivity, irritability, and sometimes even paranoia. If you would like to feel more leveled out in parenthood, please reach out to schedule an appointment.

Perinatal trauma can have many causes, such as medical care, birth trauma, NICU trauma, or experiencing grief/loss in the transition to parenthood. This happens because a part of your brain (the amygdala, among others) had to respond to a threat of some kind. This threat can be towards your or baby's life, situational, or even perceived threat (like a NICU stay). If you feel that you've experienced trauma, we'd love to help you figure out how to not feel like something bad is going to happen or is just around the corner.
