As a massage therapist now practicing Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), I cannot stress enough what to expect after your first lymphatic massage. Possibly plan your session on a Friday or a few days before you have a hectic schedule.
We all need this work but this work takes its toll when there is a lot of stagnation in our bodies.
Lymphatic massage is hands down the most relaxing massage I offer. It is slow paced, light pressure, calm and smooth work. However, After a lymphatic massage, you may feel drained, dehydrated, notice increased frequency of bathroom visits, itchy skin and possibly cold-like symptoms. This is because there is movement and flow where there was much congestion and stagnation,
Meaning, toxins are on the way OUT. Thisnis not a “feel good” process. It is recommended for general wellness massage to do MLD once a month! For more acute/chronic situations, or post operation, recommendations change.
