Kristy Wilson Midwife

Kristy Wilson Midwife Midwifery in Central PA offering women’s health, infant CST, prenatal/postpartum nutrition and more! No cost consultations.

I became a midwife because I learned a lot about myself through my own pregnancies and childbirths. Through my own birth experiences, I discovered within myself confidence, intuition and wisdom that have made me the woman, wife, mother and friend that I am today. It is my passion and calling to provide affordable and family-centered midwifery care. I truly enjoy assisting moms to find their inner strength and helping families to grow. https://www.intuitivemothermidwifery.com/about-kristy

Faith arrived in just a few hours weighing 2 lbs more than her older brother weighed at birth. A few years ago, this Mama labored for days at home before transferring for augmentation of labor and a grueling labor. Today, she is enjoying the experience of a redemptive homebirth and labor process. Faith is a thumb sucker already and so beautiful. Daddy weighed her twice to confirm that she is 9 lbs 1 ounce of pink cuteness. The best thing about homebirth is tucking the family into bed and knowing they can get the rest they need.

3rd time client…. And I am 0 for 3. First babe was premature and we went to the hospital. Second babe was in labor at the same time as another client and she got a backup midwife because I couldn’t be two places at the same time. Third baby was lightning fast. This April 10th baby came into March like a little lion.

This is just one reason why the cost of a doula is what it is. I found it sustainable as a doula to take no more than 1-3 clients per month depending on my family’s needs. It took longer to decompress after a hospital birth than a homebirth. It was a game of sorts to be prepared for anything and all the potential curve balls. It was also a challenge physically to provide the support needed for a longer birth with interventions and the associated fear response that would likely entail. And the birth was usually just half the equation because the other half was postpartum trauma as the parents’ choices and family rights were challenged and I received texts and frantic calls until the family was discharged. I found myself holding my breath until they were home. Doulas work is hard.

I have the utmost respect and love for doulas. Doulas work tirelessly for their clients often to their own detriment.

The emotional cost of doula work inside hospital systems can be astronomical. Hospital-based doula work (most births are in hospital) often becomes unsustainable because doulas are repeatedly exposed to trauma, coercion, and preventable harm. It’s not about doulas being “too sensitive”—it’s about the system itself producing situations that are emotionally injurious to anyone who witnesses them regularly.

This aligns with what many doulas describe:
**witnessing disrespect
**seeing consent being ignored
**watching unnecessary interventions
**supporting families through fear-based care
**absorbing the emotional fallout of obstetric violence

Another Saturday birthday! Pretty sure I have been at births more Saturdays than not this year. First homebirth - waterbirth - for this family after a cesarean with their first and a vbac at the hospital with their second. I am honored to be part of their story and have the privilege of midwifing this sweet family. I have truly watched them grow from two to five. ❤️

Another March babe who wanted a February birth date! When his mama calls, I drop everything and run because she is usually waiting to push as I walk in the door. This was her first daytime birth with me. I arrived just before 2pm and he was born just 18 minutes later! Mostly born into mama’s arms, I helped nudge his 15.5 inch shoulders out with just a gentle touch. This gentle giant is much loved and wants to be held by his brothers and sisters - most of whom I was blessed to midwife as well. In fact, this mama was my VERY FIRST Pennsylvania client who hired me for her second pregnancy when I still lived in Nevada and was moving home. I met her in person just 2 days after I arrived in PA in 2018. And like that, some clients feel like family. ❤️

Some mamas have to work way harder than it seems fair but the then reward is felt more strongly as well. That is Elizabeth’s story - much desired, much loved, and very much deserved. I was blessed to help this family enter the world of parenting, get to know them over the past 8 months, and see them grow into it with such loving grace. Elizabeth was gifted wonderful parents.

We had a few babies jumping in line ahead of others this week. Our first March baby arrived first this week! Jonah’s birth was a waterbirth at home with his mama being so calm with a supportive husband to guide her. When fast transitions occur in birth, the intensity of the experience is often a lot for mom to handle and we find ourselves as midwives supporting and encouraging her while she holds her perfect baby. She knew exactly what to do - from giving me a heads up, to when to call me, and how to birth her babe.

It was an early morning birth for us today. After a birthday celebration for Niamh, she assisted me at this birth. I treasure these experiences of my daughters growing up learning to respect birth and serving new families. This family and I met quite a few years ago now when I was invited to be their midwife for their first baby. Soon after, it was their second that I attended as well. And now, I was blessed to help this family welcome their third sweet babe into their arms. He was initially a vocal little guy and voracious nurser who didn’t need any assistance figuring out how to get his milk. As we left them, he was extremely content and looking around him l with amazing alertness. We arrived home as the sun was starting to appear and rearranged our day to get some sleep. Only one more February baby remains to decide a birthday.

I woke up Saturday morning to the phone ringing. It wasn’t quite time to leave and I was able to get a bit more sleep. A client was in labor a bit early - at 39 weeks. It was time for me to leave around 8:30am. I arrived right around 9am, set up my supplies, provided some labor support in the form of massage, cst, and counter-pressure as needed. Before long, mama was pushing and we got to meet this sweet boy. He is absolutely adorable. It is so cool that his mama’s friend recently had a baby that I attended as well. It will be so fun to watch them grow up as friends.

Not twins - birthday buddies!
Two mamas gave birth on the same day which happens often enough in my practice. We are excited to welcome these two healthy baby girls and see two more mamas to the finish line. Wednesday was a full day of postpartum visits with mamas and craniosacral visits for newborns.

He’s here! I had the honor and privilege of catching a second grandchild. Naomi and I assisted Lauryn & Harrison as they welcomed sweet Remus on Monday, September 29th. He weighed just 9 lbs 10 oz and wanted Grandma & Auntie Midwife to help him out with his nuchal hands and a shoulder cord a bit in the way.

Midwifery can be an all-consuming calling, as it should be. The emphasis on women’s rights and feminism has robbed women of the gentleness, softness and need for support and sympathy that we inherently have and should show each other. For most of us who are called to midwifery we are first and foremost mothers simply wanting to help others to also become and experience the fullness of mothering. The feminist and woman-powered twist on midwifery is a delusion. Through our weakness we are used to bring life into this world. In our hardest moments of labor, women deserve a midwife to be there to remind her that she has the strength and courage to selflessly welcome her baby.

I have no greater honor in this life than to have developed a relationship with my children that they call me when they need me, trust me to be there in their times of needs and welcome me to be part of their adult lives and families.

We are thankful for this beautiful child.
Remus Michael Kirk Healy, we love you.

My Story

A laboring mama needs compassion and support. She needs encouragement and someone who can understand what she is experiencing. I truly enjoy assisting moms to find their inner strength, and helping families to grow with a holistic and natural approach to pregnancy and life. Having attended hundreds of births as a midwife and doula, and also naturally birthing my own eight children, I incorporate both my professional and personal experiences from the past 18 years. Helping women to achieve a natural birth is my passion. I have attended births in all settings: hospital, birth center, and at home. When a child is born at home, I have witnessed the positive difference it can make in the lives of all family members present. I work in accordance with the Midwifery Model of Care, which assures that you are fully educated, prepared, and confident in the decisions you make regarding the birth of your child. Consultations are always free. I offer affordable payment plans, and can accept some insurance after a verification of benefits. I am currently accepting clients in the Southern Central PA Region, including York, Adams, Cumberland, Perry, Dauphin, Lebanon, and Lancaster Counties. For more information, you can see my informed consent information on my website or call me directly. https://www.intuitivemothermidwifery.com
