Our classes explore the benefits of laughter through movement, performance, and playful improvisation. Studio Playground teaches acting classes for all ages based in clowning and physical theatre. Our Theater Camp in Lincoln Woods State Park is BACK! This program offers a unique experience for kids ages 5-11, who create and perform original short plays surrounded by nature. laugh. sing. make a beautiful ruckus.

Week 1: Aug 3-7
Week 2: Aug 10-14
Week 3: Aug 17-21

Each week is offered separately and ends with a performance. Students can register for multiple weeks.

Our Teen Acting Intensive is a few months away’ Students ages 13-17 learn skills for scene study, monologue preparation, and audition techniques. Studio Playground teaches classes based in movement and physical acting in a highly supportive environment led by teachers with professional experience as actors and directors. Students of all levels are encouraged to join.

Our students prepare for launch and explore uncharted planets in My Rocket Ship Crash-Landed! Spaces are still available for our PVD Theater Camp. In this half-day program, students ages 5-10 invent characters and perform in an original play for friends & family.

We just opened registration for our FREE summer program at Smith Hill Library in Providence!

The Performing Arts in Libraries (PALS) Program invites kids ages 7-11 to adapt a children’s book into theater. Each round of PALS ends with a performance giving students the opportunity to share their work with friends and family.

We are grateful to our Board of Directors for providing financial support for this program, which is funded in part by a grant from the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism, and is produced in partnership with BankNewport and Community Libraries of Providence (CLPVD).

Studio Playground is seeking Teaching Artists to join our team! This is a part-time seasonal position. Opportunities include after-school programs in Rhode Island and our theater camp in Lincoln Woods State Park which occurs August 3-21, 2026. The time commitment varies depending on the program. The compensation is $30 per hour.

The mission of Studio Playground is to use the performing arts to promote acceptance & empowerment for children in Rhode Island. Our classes are based in movement and physical acting with a focus on skills to support social emotional development. Our teaching practices emphasize using theater education to foster a feeling of belonging for students.

Required Experience:
Undergraduate degree
Teaching experience (2 years)
Theater experience (2 years)
