Cold days in Nebraska already force you to be inside more than you'd like to be, which can also mean more chances for household falls. Loose rugs, cluttered walkways and poor lighting all add risk.

Here are a few ways you can lower your chance of a fall risk at home:
• Secure or remove rugs
• Keep your hallways clear of items
• Add grab bars or railings where you walk the most
• Wear shoes with good traction indoors
• Get help for your dizziness and balance problems

If you have noticed balance changes for yourself or a loved one, Bryan has a team of physical therapists specializing in balance and dizziness who can help you with techniques on how to reduce fall risk and how to move with confidence. Free balance screenings are available once a month:

Nebraska continues to remain in the "high" flu activity category according to the CDC.

While this trend is not ideal, the most effective actions are also the simplest: stay home when you’re ill, practice good hand hygiene and get plenty of rest to support recovery and prevention. With milder temperatures ahead, spending time outdoors and getting fresh air can also be a healthy option.

“When you don’t feel good, having to get up, get ready, drive and probably buy a meal – it all adds up. Fatigue is such a huge side effect for our patients, and this really helps.”

As an oncology nurse navigator serving Crete, Friend and Wilber, Lacey Stevens helps patients manage the early days of a cancer diagnosis with clarity and compassion. She coordinates tests, appointments and follow-ups in their own community, easing both the stress and the cost of travel.

At every step, Lacey is the connection point between providers, specialists and survivors, making sure patients never walk through treatment alone.

A case of measles has been confirmed in Lincoln, Nebraska. While this illness is rare, it is highly contagious, which makes awareness important.

It is important to understand measles, what symptoms to watch for and what to do in the case that you were exposed. Early symptoms can feel like a common cold before a rash develops (2-4 days later), so paying attention matters.

If you think you may have measles or were recently exposed, we encourage you to call ahead to your primary care provider before going to a clinic or hospital. This can help protect other patients, visitors and health care teams.

Congratulations to Sarah Bowhay, RN, on receiving a DAISY Award.

Here is what a family had to say about Sarah in her nomination:
"Sarah was a rock we leaned heavily while my dad was at Bryan. Her ability to go slowly, tenderly, and always giving us honest information about hospice care was unforgettable. She called us when we reached out for more information, checked on us continuously, and shared our tears. Thank you, Sarah, – our hearts are healing due to you."

Thank you for being helpful and welcoming, Sarah! We are proud of you. The DAISY Award recognizes outstanding nurses at Bryan.
