Congratulations to Amy Berggren, APRN-NP for receiving the Care Like Crazy Award!

A colleague shared these kind words about Amy.
"Each day, Amy consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our patients receive the highest level of care and compassion. Recently, we had a patient visiting from Vermont who came to Lincoln to attend a music festival where his son would be performing a piece the patient had written.

Unfortunately, during his visit, the patient suffered an NSTEMI, requiring major open-heart surgery. Not only was he facing a serious health crisis, but he was also heartbroken that he would miss hearing his son perform the music he had composed. While the patient waited in the hospital for his surgery, he asked if he could listen to his son’s interview and performance on the radio. Amy, despite her already busy schedule, took the time to try and find a radio for him. When she discovered that we do not have radios available for patients at Bryan, she didn’t let that stop her. Instead, she called her husband, who brought a radio from their home so the patient could listen. This is just one of many examples of Amy’s extraordinary compassion, dedication and selflessness. She consistently embodies what it means to truly 'care like crazy.'"

Amy, thank you for the care you provide daily to your patients. You make a difference in the lives of others. We are honored that you are part of the Bryan Medical Staff.

On this day in 1983, Lincoln General Hospital had its own brush with Hollywood fame. The hospital became a filming location for Terms of Endearment, a movie that went on to win five Academy Awards.

Hundreds of staff members were part of the experience, and the hospital even hosted a red-carpet premiere right here in Lincoln. Want to see how it all happened?

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, deadly gas that can leak from fuel-burning devices like furnaces or fireplaces. That's why it's important that you:

✅ Have a professional inspect fuel-burning devices each year
✅ Keep vents clear & open
✅ Install carbon monoxide alarms near bedrooms
✅ Never use generators or charcoal indoors

Congratulations to Sonja Harb, MHT, for receiving the October Tulip Award!

Here is what a couple colleagues had to say about Sonja:
"Sonja is the hardest working tech I know. She cares deeply about her role and maintains safety on the unit. She notices safety issues no one else does and has prevented countless issues. No one really notices everything she does until she is gone, but I do. She has a very stressful position and sometimes serves as a punching bag as the first person answering a phone call or a patient yelling at her, but she knows when to set limits and hold firm. She is a great asset to our unit!"

"Sonja has been a team member on the unit for a long time. As a result, she has so much knowledge about her unit and the patients. In high-stress situations, she is an amazing de-escalator. I have seen her talk to patients and their families with compassion, kindness and a comforting voice. Sonja is often at the front desk taking calls, so she is often the first voice worried family members hear. She is amazing at being there for them and getting them the appropriate person to talk to – simple, but important, and very helpful to the nurse. Please consider strongly giving Sonja this award. Her consistency, compassion, knowledge, and willingness to be helpful to staff and patients alike, is a great asset to the Bryan Community. Thank you!"
