Central Arkansas Vein Center, P.A. Vein center for the treatment of chronic venous disorders of the legs. Central Arkansas Vein Center, P.A. Do your legs bother you? Are they achy?

offers treatment of chronic venous disorders of the legs. Chronic venous disorders include varicose veins and spider veins, as well as more advanced signs of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) such as edema, skin changes, or venous skin ulcers. Severe varicose veins can compromise the nutrition of the skin and other structures. Since most veins lie deep to the skin's surface, vein disorders are not always visible to the naked eye. A diagnostic ultrasound is often used to determine the cause and severity of the problem. Central Arkansas Vein Center offers a comprehensive ultrasound examination with a state of the art ultrasound machine. This utilizes duplex ultrasound to assess the venous anatomy, vein valve function, and venous blood flow changes, which can assist in diagnosing venous insufficiency. Dr. Enns will map the greater saphenous vein and examine the deep and superficial venous systems to determine whether the veins are open, and to pinpoint any reflux. It is estimated that more than 80 million Americans suffer from some form of venous disorder, and many seek treatment for relief of pain. Pain in the legs is frequently related to abnormal leg veins. Phlebology is the field of medicine that deals with vein diseases and disorders. It has been an established medical specialty in Europe for over 50 years, but interest in Phlebology has only developed over the last two decades in the United States. Symptoms which are commonly due to leg vein disease include: aching, burning, muscle cramping, pain, itching skin, leg heaviness, and leg tiredness/fatigue. Vein disease is also a common cause of restless legs syndrome. Heredity is the number one contributing factor to varicose and spider veins. Varicose veins may lead to more serious complications such as blood clots, bleeding, rashes, and ulceration. Vein treatment causes abnormal veins to disappear and symptoms to improve. It prevents more extensive vein disease from developing and prevents more serious complications. Cosmetic concerns are also addressed by treating the underlying problem. Treatment options, including endovenous thermal ablation (Radiofrequency ablation), are a minimally invasive technique for treating varicosities. It is now considered the new standard of care for treating venous reflux, and has a much lower rate of recurrence than more traditional surgical therapies and laser. This is an outpatient procedure, which generally takes less than an hour and can provide immediate relief. Dr. Enns uses a thin catheter about the size of a spaghetti strand, inserted into the vein, to deliver radiofrequency energy to the vein. This “seals” the vein closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins take over to carry blood from the leg and re-establish normal flow. Patients can generally return immediately to normal activity with little or no pain. Minor soreness or bruising is common. Scarring is generally minimal. The procedure is generally 93-95% effective. Many insurance carriers cover the vein ablation treatment. Other options are micro-phlebectomy (removal of the vein) for superficial bulging varicose veins, and sclerotherapy for spider veins, reticular veins, and smaller varicose veins. Compression stockings are often utilized post-procedure. Central Arkansas Vein Center offers custom fitted high quality compression stockings which can assist in achieving the best result.
