The College of Nursing, a CCNE accredited institution, provides baccalaureate, master’s, DNP and PhD programs to over 600 students. The College has faculty practice programs in pediatrics, primary care, women’s health, gerontology, family psych and mental health, and genetics. The faculty are national and regional leaders and their achievements include presidents of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Southern Nursing Research Society, and the Southern Regional Education Board Council of Collegiate Education in Nursing. The College has a Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence. Research focus areas include cardiovascular, sleep, gerontology, forensic nursing, and cancer.

Big news from UAMS College of Nursing! Several faculty members have received prestigious grants to advance nursing research and education:

🔬 Dr. Joceyln Anderson – Awarded \$1.5M for the SAFE Research Initiative to improve access to sexual assault forensic exams, especially in rural communities.
🧠 Dr. Mark Dunavan – Received \$4,577 to compare training methods for nerve block skills in nurse anesthesia students.
🎓 Dr. Michelle Gonzalez – Renewed funding of \$22,359 for Nurse Anesthetist Traineeships to support student expenses.

Alumni Spotlight: Crystal Marcussen, APRN
Crystal Marcussen is making a lasting impact as a Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UAMS. Her journey began with a BS in Biology from the University of Arkansas, followed by a BSN from UAMS in 2007. After gaining experience as a Labor & Delivery nurse, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with her MNSc in 2011 and earned her national certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.

Crystal has served in the OB/GYN Department since 2012, caring for patients across the lifespan and collaborating with Dr. Nirvana Manning and Dr. Dora Smith. Her dedication to women’s health is a true reflection of the excellence we strive for at UAMS.
