Some of you may or may not know that my poor body has been through the ringer over the last 2 years with both of my knees (and 4 procedures).
As a wellness practitioner, I practice what I preach. Finding balance through these lengthy recoveries was necessary for all aspects of my health. I still struggled with some low depression points (I am still a human being with the full range of emotions and brain), I am happy to say that my personal struggles over this time have helped me grow immensely as a professional.
I took myself on as a client and tried to give myself grace, kindness, and offer as many adaptations of activities as I could. I pushed myself to try new hobbies that required little movement (since I lived in bed for more than 9 months). But I also did not engage in what I call "toxic positivity."
This is where many of us struggle.
It is very important to allow ourselves downtime. To allow ourselves to feel the emotions we are feeling and not push them away with thoughts that cloud the truth we are experiencing in those moments.
It is absolutely true that "this too shall pass," but more importantly, it will TRULY pass (and not come back to haunt you) when you acknowledge it, give it space, and allow it to pass through you naturally.
This takes practice. This takes a lot of work. But trusting in the process, allowing ourselves to be actual human beings, and finding balance is true wellness.
