Our hospice team at St. Mary’s Home Health and Hospice in Georgia is bringing a special dementia education and experience to the Athens community as a hands‑on way to build empathy and understanding for people living with dementia.

Recently led by Hospice Coordinator Leanne M., this experience helps participants better understand the day‑to‑day challenges of dementia – and how specialized hospice care can provide comfort, dignity and support for patients and families along the way.

Earlier this year, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month, colleagues at Saint Francis at Home in Delaware came together to collect non‑perishable food items and winter essentials for the local community.

Thanks to their generosity, the team donated more than 90 pounds of food, along with gloves, scarves and hats, to support neighbors through REACH Riverside, a local nonprofit – helping provide both nourishment and warmth.

Thank you to our Saint Francis at Home colleagues for living our Mission and making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. 🫶

Ethan B., a hospice volunteer in Georgia, recently opened up about his journey and what volunteering has meant to him.

Bio: Ethan is an Atlanta-area native currently working at the University of Georgia as a Research Technician and an EMT. He has a passion for service and is planning to apply to medical school this summer. In his free time, Ethan likes taking his dog to the park and practicing taekwondo.

Why hospice: “It has been such a pleasure to offer a compassionate presence while forming a relationship with individuals during life's most delicate transitions. Advocating for patients' dignity and providing emotional support have been incredibly rewarding. Getting the chance to see the person I volunteer for has become a highlight of my week.”
