🚨 Rolling Roots Farms Community Update 🚨
Today, Monday, September 29th, Rolling Roots Farms LLC was visited by a City Building Inspector. For the second time this season, our operation has been challenged. Earlier this year, I received a cease-and-desist order stating that our business could not legally operate out of a residential area. Today, I was also informed that our farm stand must be taken down once the season ends.
Previously, I was required to remove our leaf flag, which was deemed not permitted under Lockport city code. While these may seem like small details, together they represent a much bigger issue: the city is effectively pushing to shut down Rolling Roots Farms in its current location.
As it stands, we’ve been told we may finish this farmers market season, but after that our operations must cease unless we move to a commercial property or win approval through a variance. That means I’ll need to present our case before the city board—and the strength of that case depends heavily on community support.
This farm represents years of sweat, investment, and dedication—not only from me, but from all of you who’ve shown up, shopped local, and believed in the power of fresh, sustainable, community-grown food. Losing this would not just impact me, but the many families who depend on what we grow.
