Jordan Rubin. A recent study featured in The Epoch Times revealed that certain medications, even those ingested years ago, may still be altering your gut health today. Commonly used drugs—like antidepressants, acid reflux medications, and beta-blockers for high blood pressure—can disrupt gut bacteria similarly to antibiotics.

Even three years after participants stopped consuming them, their guts still showed signs of imbalance. These drugs were shown to:
+ Reduce microbial diversity
+ Weaken the immune system
+ Increase inflammation
+ Damage the gut barrier

Nutritionist, Kara Siedman, says, “We often think of medications as acting only on human cells, but they also interact with the gut ecosystem—the microbes, the intestinal barrier, and the immune system.”
