Tuesday Tip: Cross Crawl Exercises for Kids
Cross crawl exercises are simple, fun movements that can support your child’s development. These activities encourage coordination between both sides of the body, helping improve movement, focus, and skills related to learning.
Here are easy ways to try them at home:
-March Opposite Hand to Knee: Have your child march in place, touching their right hand to their left knee, then switching sides. Go slow at first, then build rhythm.
-Elbow to Knee Taps: While standing, bring one elbow across the body to meet the opposite knee. This helps with balance and core strength.
-Crawling Games: Encourage hands-and-knees crawling through tunnels, under tables, or across the floor. This is a natural cross-lateral movement.
-Seated Cross Crawls: For younger children or beginners, try this while seated, reach one hand across to touch the opposite knee.
-Add a Beat: Turn on music and have your child move to the rhythm. This makes it more engaging and supports timing and coordination.
-Keep It Playful: Turn these into games like “follow the leader” or obstacle courses to keep your child motivated.
Remember, these movements may look simple, but they play an important role in building coordination, balance, and attention skills over time.
