Uplift

Uplift An online community of people who suffer from mental illness and people who support the cause. Please feel free to message this page to anonymously post.

My name is Maggie Goodman, the creator of Uplift, and I have suffered for years from depression and suicidal tendencies. I'm choosing to be open about my illness because not enough people are. It's something that has become so hush-hush and stigmatized, that people are afraid to come out and own it. It seems contradictory to me, and this is why I made this page. People are afraid to talk about their mental illness, and yet the most effective therapy for someone with a mental illness is just that--to talk about it. To get it out of their system. To feel like they are not alone. To know that there are other people like them. To understand that people are rooting for them and support them. We need to get rid of the stigma that mental illness is something to be ashamed of, because it really isn't. Many of the strongest people I know have suffered from mental illness and have gone on to live the most wonderful and inspiring lives. My hope for this page is to create an online community of people who suffer from mental illness, people who think they may suffer from mental illness, as well as people who support the cause and want to show their love for those who suffer from mental illness. This page is intended for members to share their feelings, offer support for one another, and give ideas for how they are Uplifting their lives and, in turn, Uplift each other. This can be through pictures, videos, songs, quotes, goal-sharing, or just writing a simple post—any medium you’d like is welcome. It can also either be anonymous or, if you'd like to give a name and age, you are absolutely free to do so. There is no pressure or judgment either way you choose. I ask that the people in this group simply respect the posts of others, be supportive and encouraging, and keep in mind that we are all in this together. Welcome to Uplift, and thank you in advance for Uplifting each other. :-)

Best,
Maggie

I thought I had seen and heard it all (okay maybe not all, but a LOT) till this book. What an amazing tribute to the resiliency of human beings, the effects of the early stages of human development on the rest of our lives, and the incredible things that happen with some therapy. Highly highly recommend (Caution: Severe examples of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse)

It’s not perfect yet but grateful to live in a lifetime where we can do basically whatever the fork we want, grateful for the men who see that, & grateful for the women before us who paved the way. 💃🏻

Happy 2sday! I’m not allll that superstitious 👀 but this feels special. Also the fact that 2 years ago started a not-so-ideal 2 years for essentially everyone on the planet. I’m choosing to believe this is a restart day. Better things ahead. Like/comment/share if you’re with me 💛☀️💛☀️ #22222

Extremely sad news. Proof that su***de and depression can impact the shiniest and the smiliest of people. You never know what someone is going through internally. Sending prayers to her family 🤍

I’m good at doing this in my personal life. Professional life- not so much. Today, I did. It wasn’t a big thing- just standing up for myself on part of an observation report I didn’t agree with. But for me, that’s huge. Authority has always been a weird one for me. I grew up as a “good” girl who just wanted to please everyone and be liked by everyone, especially the adults in my life. Now those *adults* are my peers and immediate supervisors, and sometimes I forget that I’m qualified to say what I disagree with, respectfully of course. It went well! And my supervisor didn’t hate me after! If anything, she respected me more.

Is anyone else 30+ years old and still feeling like a little kid sometimes? I’m coming to realize that’s pretty normal. Our insecurities run deep and follow us wherever we go.

Here’s to being just large little kids re-learning little kid lessons doing the best we can 🥂
