Dave and I want to sincerely thank you for your generous support to Comfort Purses this past year. It is so good to know that you completely understand our passion for what we do.
We began our journey in Oregon back in February 2018 with a trip to a boutique store in Ashland, Oregon. There I discovered some rather unique purses on sale, so we bought a few. Right then Dave knew I was up to something as who needs four purses exactly the same. My plan was to fill them with comfort items and give them to people going through a difficult health challenge. Having gone through two brain surgeries years ago, I was well aware of what it felt like to be in need of hope and encouragement.
Asante Hospital in Grants Pass was our first. With a well written letter and a shining example of a few beautiful purses filled with comfort items, we walked in to our appointment and introduced ourselves. The response we were receiving from the hospital staff was beyond belief. They had never heard of anyone doing what we do. From there Comfort Purses took off. Next were Asante Hospital Medford, Providence Oncology in Medford and Providence Hospital in Eureka, CA.
Since moving to Southern California in 2020, we were not able to continue to serve our Oregon hospitals. We have now grown to six hospitals and one large infusion center here in Southern California… City of Hope Cancer Center (Duarte), City of Hope Lennar Infusion Center (Irvine), two Hoag Hospitals (Hoag Irvine and Hoag Newport Beach), Providence St. Joseph (Orange), Memorial Todd Cancer Institute (Long Beach) and Los Alamitos Hospital. This last year we began to add Patient Feedback Cards into each Comfort Purse, Bro Bag and Comfort Christmas Stocking. This idea was to allow patients to express their feelings back to us after having received their Comfort Purse, Bro Bag or Comfort Christmas Stocking. As we provide our phone # in the letter that goes into each Comfort Purse, Bro Bag and Comfort Christmas Stocking, many patients have called to thank us personally with some even asking us if we would pray for them, and we have gladly prayed with so many. We are truly grateful to be able to give to these special women and men.
So again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in Comfort Purses and supporting us this past year. Without your generosity, we would have never been able to afford to take on the task of providing our Comfort Purses and Bro Bags not only to our current hospitals, but also to the newly built City of Hope Lennar Foundation Infusion Center in Irvine.
Lastly, pictured is a copy of a plaque we recently received from Memorial Todd Cancer Institute in Long Beach. What a blessing to receive such an acknowledgement. This truly encourages and motivates us to continue to pursue our passion.
Blessings, Dave & Lorian Gordon www.comfortpurses.org
