As we end , I want to thank all the Black mothers that came before us including my very own. As some of you may know, my is different than all of my siblings— I was the only one born in a hospital whereas all of my siblings had home births. With me, ( #3) my mom had blood clots in her leg, which meant that the hospital was the safest option for us. Whether high risk or low risk, hospitals should always be a safe place Black people to birth. However, for historical reasons that we are all aware of, that isn’t our reality. What elevating Black maternal health means to me is protecting our right to have choices, respect, and dignity through pregnancy and beyond. Every Black mother deserves to have a protected birthing environment. That’s what we strive for. 🤲🏾✨
