About the viral Dallas Regional Hospital incident

I am outraged. Heartbroken. And stirred in my spirit.
What we witnessed in that video of the pregnant Black woman at Dallas Regional Hospital was not just “poor customer service.” It was a violation of dignity. A violation of humanity. A violation of everything birth should stand for.

As a doula, I walk with mothers during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
And let’s not forget before becoming a full-time doula, I worked on the hospital side of things.
I know what compassion should look like.
I know what protocol should sound like.
I know the difference between genuine medical concern and unnecessary hostility.

And what we saw was not care it was chaos.
It was dismissal.
It was disregard.
It was dangerous.

No woman deserves to be dismissed.

No woman deserves to be mishandled.
No woman deserves to be humiliated while carrying life.

What we saw was yet another reminder of why advocacy is not optional.
Why education is not optional.
Why support is not optional.

Black mothers are fighting for more than a peaceful birth…
sometimes they’re fighting to be seen. Heard. Believed. Protected.

And that is unacceptable.

Your story matters.
Your voice matters.
Your body matters.
Your birth matters.

To healthcare teams everywhere:

Compassion is not a luxury it is a requirement.
Every mother deserves respect, safety, and humanity.

I will keep creating safe, informed, Spirit-led spaces for mothers to birth in dignity.

I’ve always had a deep love for birthwork. Before launching The Chayil Birthing LLC, I spent years on the clinical side of care supporting families in labor and delivery and postpartum units across several hospitals in Los Angeles County. Those experiences helped me understand both the medical and emotional sides of birth.

In January 2022, my life changed forever when I lost my 17-year-old son to gun violence. During that season of grief, God gave me a new mission—to transform pain into purpose. I found healing through helping others bring life into the world. Every time I support a family in birth, it feels like a divine exchange… a life for a life.

That’s when I made the decision to step fully into this calling serving families with compassion, advocacy, and faith, so that every birth can be a sacred experience.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Sankofa Birthworkers Collective’s Midwifery Access Project (MAP)—a new initiative designed to expand access to midwifery-informed prenatal education and support across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

MAP offers weekly group sessions led by local midwives to supplement (not replace) participants’ existing prenatal care. These gatherings create space for connection, culturally rooted learning, and a supportive community for expectant parents. We deeply appreciate your partnership and the shared commitment to uplifting families through compassionate, community-centered care.

Hello Beautiful Soul,

My name is Jennetta D. Gilliam, and I am the heart behind Chayil Birthing LLC. I am a Full-Spectrum Doula, Childbirth Educator, and faith-led birthworker devoted to helping families experience birth with peace, purpose, and power.

My work is rooted in compassion and revelation — blending evidence-based care with spiritual insight to support not only your body but your heart and spirit as you bring forth life. I believe birth is both a biological event and a sacred encounter — a moment where heaven and earth meet, and strength is revealed through vulnerability.

Through Chayil Birthing LLC, I have had the honor of serving families across Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles Counties, providing care through both private and Medi-Cal pathways with partners such as Mahmee, Meet Mae, Sankofa Birthworkers, and Pomelo (The Doula Network).

Whether I’m offering prenatal guidance, labor support, postpartum care, or childbirth education, my mission remains the same:
to ensure that every birthing parent feels seen, safe, and supported — body, mind, and spirit.
