"When smooches go rogue: to all it definitely concerns"
For someone who rarely come to this space to post, some things I've been seeing these days ehn, e reach make we yarn..
Dear parents, guardians, families and friends, attention please. It's about our newborns. Have you ever visited an hospital to greet a new mum and you can testify to how "hostile" some nurses can be? Trust me, it's sometimes for the best
Newborns are like little bundles of joy... and vulnerability. Their immune systems are still in the 'learning to walk' phase, making them more susceptible to infections. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a common culprit, and it can spread like wildfire if we're not careful.
"The Kissing Conundrum"
Kissing is love, right? Well, not always. When it comes to newborns, even the most innocent-looking visitors can be HSV carriers. Cold sores, anyone? If you've got a cold sore or are feeling feverish, it's best to keep those lips (and hands) away from the baby.
Neonatal herpes can lead to serious complications for the child, don't even get me started
Prevention is the Best Medicine
-Wash those hands! Visitors should scrub up before touching the baby (if need be)
- No kissing, please! π
ββοΈ Or at least, not on the lips or face. You fit shove your mouth to the wall or pole if it's doing you like having an oral contact.
- Keep an eye on visitors with cold sores or fever blisters
- Breastfeeding moms, take note: if you've got a cold sore, cover up or pump and dump (temporarily, of course!)
And to address the not-so-big elephant in the room. It's common to hear some new moms say they don't know how to tell their mother-in-laws or dear elderlies not to kiss the baby. Maami, while it's ethically certified to be polite to our elders, it's also commonsensical to do right by your child, without being rude of course. And if it would eventually paint you to be a witch, please, for the sake of that innocent child, kindly embrace your "new" title. You can't please everyone, definitely. Know when the benefits are meant to outweigh the risks.
Let's keep our tiny ones safe and sound, shall we? πΎπ Spread the word, not the virus!
