When I asked my body what it wanted to do... 𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘬.⁣

Literally. Last night, I was feeling a bit strange so I began tuning into my body to see what was up... 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲. It was completely involuntary but quite profound. ⁣

But rather than freaking out or getting worked up about it, I deepened my breath and 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁.⁣

It was mostly in my lower back, abdomen, and hips (typically where I’ve held my trauma). I let the shaking go on for a few minutes.

I then wondered if my core was contracting and trembling in an attempt to bring my knees in...so I very slowly allowed that to happen. ⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽.⁣

I ended up in a reclined fetal position, curled up in a little ball. But I didn’t feel small, 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱. Like a hug. ⁣

I took a few more deep breaths, and next thing I knew I woke up the next morning. 𝗜 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙 𝗼𝘂𝘁 and fell into a deep sleep! ⁣

𝗜’𝗺 𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀... it’s a learned experience to be able to slow down & move through it without fear or going over a threshold. ⁣

𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 “𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮” 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱...⁣

I believe important to learn how to safely navigate them in order to release trauma from our body and that’s why I do the work that I do. 𝗗𝗠 𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. ⁣

Sometimes we have to twist and bend to find balance in situations that feel totally scary and unfair... ⁣

Our time on our yoga mat, can help prepare us for real life situations that bring about the same sensations and feelings. ⁣

Yoga and Somatic bodywork teaches us to 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵, breathe, and allow it move through.⁣

So I invite you to recognize that you’re still here. You’re still standing. There may be more to heal, but you survived. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗙.⁣
