It's Monday afternoon. You know...there is nothing more sobering than to think about your own mortality. I just had a meeting with my financial advisor and we were discussing life, finances, and what I have planned for those who depend on me including The Hunt Foundation in case something happens to me. It got me thinking about how I live my life. Do I live for now or am I overly concerned about the future? He said something to me that hit home. He said that while it is important to make sure you are financially secure, it is equally important to invest in your personal happiness. Missing out on certain things in life in order to die with a bank account full of money isn't really living. There is absolutely a way to be smart and do both. I work...A LOT. Growing up the way I did has always made me worry about what happens to those who need me if I lose it all. Will everyone be ok? My mother said something to me as a kid that has always stuck with me. No matter how little money you make, every paycheck do something for yourself. Whether it's buying a piece of candy or treating yourself to a nice meal. When living from paycheck to paycheck, you can lose yourself in just trying to survive. If you always try to do something for yourself, no matter how small, you will get a glimpse of living and not just surviving. So while it is important to save, it is equally important to be happy and live a little.
Remember, being happy and living a little doesn't always require money. I've had some of the best times of my life when I didn't have 2 pennies to rub together. Take some time today and think about what makes you happy and then set aside some time and go do it. It's just that simple. Take care of you. You are the most important. If you don't take care of you, you can't be there for anyone else. Life is about balance. Live life today while preparing for tomorrow. Have a great week y'all.
