“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
We live in a culture that glorifies hustle and constant stimulation. There are endless to-do lists, scrolling, streaming, and multitasking. But our minds, bodies, and souls weren’t designed for nonstop input.

From a clinical perspective, rest allows the nervous system to reset, lowers cortisol, supports emotional regulation, and improves cognitive function. From a biblical perspective, rest is an act of trusting, releasing control, and remembering that our worth is not in what we produce.

True rest is not just inactivity. It’s engaging in activities that bring peace, renewal, and connection to God and to yourself.

☁️ Restful Activities (True Rest):

🕊️ Quiet prayer or meditation
📖 Reading Scripture or a devotional
🚶‍♀️ Gentle walk in nature without your phone
🛏️ Taking a nap without guilt
🎨 Creating something for joy, not performance
🤍 Sitting in silence or practicing mindfulness
🕯️ Deep breathing or grounding exercises
👭 Slow, meaningful time with loved ones

⚡ Not-So-Restful Activities (False Rest):

📱 Mindlessly scrolling social media
📺 Binge-watching shows for hours
🛍️ Online shopping for distraction
🍷 Using food, alcohol, or busyness to “numb out”
🗓️ Packing your weekend full of errands or social events
😴 Sleeping excessively to avoid emotions

True rest is both spiritual obedience and psychological healing. You don’t have to earn it. You were made for it!

People pleasing often stems from a belief that one must always perform to earn or deserve love. Those who struggle with people pleasing tendencies feel used, worn-out, and often lack self-confidence.

Therapy helps get to the root of the issue and explore new ways to interact with others that will result in mutually fulfilling relationships!

🌷If you’re struggling postpartum, you’re not alone.

So many moms feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unlike themselves after having a baby. In fact, 1 in 5 mothers experience postpartum mood or anxiety disorders. It doesn’t mean you’re failing, it means you’re human.

At New Vine Counseling, we offer compassionate support grounded in evidence-based care. Our approach pulls from ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and other proven modalities to help moms manage overwhelming emotions, reduce guilt and shame, and build coping skills that truly work.
Our graduate intern, Jordan Heilaman, knows first hand what it’s like to experience postpartum depression and is passionate about helping women navigate postpartum challenges and thrive in motherhood.

🌿 You deserve healing, support, and hope. Reaching out is a brave first step

Many couples, individuals, and families are unsure whether or not therapy is a helpful option for their situation. While there are many reasons why therapy is beneficial, we thought it would be helpful to show some common reasons why people choose to add a therapist to their village!

You aren’t alone, and there is NEVER shame in asking for help.💜
